Wrestler of the Week: Hy Draco
With major shows in Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam this past weekend, choosing just one Wrestler of the Week was almost impossible. Still, one name stood out: Hy Draco—Vietnam Pro Wrestling’s high-flying breakout star with charisma, skill, and a growing legacy.

Origins of Hy Draco
Hy Draco made his in-ring debut for Vietnam Pro Wrestling as one of the new post-COVID talents who stepped in after several first-generation wrestlers retired. Although his first match ended in a loss to the somewhat forgotten main eventer Le Tyler, he delivered a strong performance.
His win-loss record didn’t improve much over the next few months as he found his footing by tagging with a variety of partners—from Khoa Truong to Kira to Rocky Huynh. All of these men were trying to reconnect with fans after the long pandemic-induced break.
It was Draco’s high-flying arsenal, including aerial dives and flying kicks, that helped him connect with the crowd. His unique, basketball-themed pro-wrestling attire also resonated with local Vietnamese fans, given the sport’s popularity in the country.
At Brawl Hallow’s Eve 2022, an event he later called his favorite of the year, Draco earned his first victory by defeating main eventer An D in a competitive encounter. Capitalizing on that momentum, he defeated reigning VPW Openweight Champion Damien Wolfe in a non-title match at the following show. Had Wolfe agreed to put the title on the line, Draco could have fulfilled his dream much sooner.

Rise to the Top
As 2023 rolled in, Hy Draco became an established member of the VPW roster. He lost matches against Sid and Ares but picked up wins in six-man tag team competition. By the end of the year, he formed a promising tag team with Phong Tran, and the duo looked poised to pursue tag team gold in early 2024.

Title Reign & Turning Points
Things changed at the start of 2024 when Draco became entangled in a feud involving comedian Phuong Nam and his conflict with MC Xavier Patricks. As Nam and Draco got the better of X Pat and The Classic Night, the arrogant manager called on Draco to help take down the Unstoppable Force, Ares, following a spear at Spring Bash 2024.
However, it turned out to be a trap. Nam turned on Draco and aligned himself with his current protégé Ares, costing Draco a key victory at Saigon Slam.
Rather than react impulsively, Draco stayed cool-headed, leading to a series of life-changing victories.
At Ultimate Collision, he dominated a high-flyers’ three-way exhibition match against Kira and Xumin Long—who are now his tag team champion allies. A month later, he helped eliminate Ares from the Rumble and ultimately threw Rocky Huynh out to earn the Sure Shot contract.
One month later, he finally lived his dream.
The night began with a record-speed win over Dokuga that left fans breathless. Later, he returned during a post-match beatdown on former champion Rocky by the new titleholder Ares. In a lightning-fast moment, Draco cashed in the contract. Ares’ shoulders were on the mat for the three-count.
Hy Draco was the Openweight Champion of Vietnam.
Things only got bigger from there.
He closed the year with a main event showdown against Xumin Long and delivered a show-stealing performance at Ho Tram Slam, putting the final nail in the coffin of his feud with Ares and Phuong Nam.
🗣️ “In a lightning-fast moment, Draco cashed in the contract and pinned Ares—cementing his name in VPW history.”
Unfortunately, the fairytale ended—at least for now—when Rocky cost Draco the championship to The British Horror at Saigon Slam. Now, Draco seeks revenge against his former ally before turning his attention to whomever holds the belt after this Saturday.

Fan Connection & Charisma
What’s most impressive about Draco is his connection with local fans. While he’s a hit with the international crowd that attends VPW events, it’s the hundreds of young Vietnamese fans who erupt when he makes his entrance or hits one of his signature moves.
And after the show? He has time for every single one of them.
💬 “His heart and kindness are as vast as the gap between him and the floor when he leaps from the ring.”
At just three years into his career, we believe the future is incredibly bright for Hy Draco. He’s a must-watch figure in Southeast Asia pro wrestling, and one of the most exciting rising Vietnamese wrestlers on the scene today.
