DEXCON Wrestlestorm 2 – Full Review
Although some time ago, Wrestlestorm 2 was finally released on Triller over Wrestlemania weekend for all of us worldwide to enjoy. I’ve heard amazing things about this show and of course one very wonderful moment made the front cover of Issue 2.
Wrestlestorm 2 kicked off with a spectacular opening: a traditional dance performance followed by the ring announcer introducing the event, immediately giving the show an upgraded, big-event feel compared to previous DEXCON events. It set the tone perfectly, and fittingly, one of the two headline matches opened the show.
Match 1: Jake De Leon & Yoshi Tatsu Vs Jomar & Fabio Makisig
There was a real sense of significance having Tatsu there, especially for fans who grew up watching wrestling in Asia during the 2010s. The match began with JDL and Fabio exchanging catch wrestling holds, with JDL trying to keep things grounded in a traditional pro wrestling style, while Makisig, when tagged in, brought in sharp, fast strikes. As the match developed, JDL and Tatsu worked to keep Makisig isolated, trying to prevent him from utilizing his dangerous kicks.
The match built nicely as Jomar came in to overpower Tatsu, only for Tatsu to lock in a single-leg crab. JDL and Tatsu kept the momentum with snapmares, chops, and careful teamwork, but Makisig managed to turn the tide with a springboard stomp to JDL’s back. Jomar dominated JDL with heavy strikes, while Fabio hit a cartwheel splash to keep the pressure on. The crowd was firmly behind Tatsu, creating a hot atmosphere whenever JDL struggled for a tag. Chaos broke out with accidental collisions between Jomar and Makisig, which allowed JDL a brief opening. Tatsu came in like a house on fire, hitting a Blue Thunder Bomb on Makisig for a near fall, but Jomar answered back with a spinebuster.
Near-falls came quickly after that: a tornado DDT from Tatsu, a cannonball from JDL, a standing shooting star press from Makisig, and wild brawling outside the ring. The match reached its peak when a flying rooster kick and a final dropkick on Jomar secured the three-count.
Winners: JDL & Yoshi Tatsu
This was an outstanding opening match, the kind that could have headlined almost any show let alone opened it. All four men set the pace and showed exactly what the Pinoy wrestling scene can do.
After the match, JDL and Yoshitatsu both thanked the fans and their opponents, but Jomar showed his true colors by misting Tatsu, setting up a more clearly defined heel direction for the future.
Match 2: Isaiah Valencia Vs Robin Sane
These two started at a blistering pace, immediately getting into each other’s faces. The story here was Valencia showing off some new skills and surprising Sane early on. Sane regained control with a lightning-quick dropkick and a flashy tornado kick off the ropes, getting the fans firmly behind him. Valencia cut Sane off during a springboard attempt and launched into rolling suplexes, but Sane countered into a headlock to slow things down. Valencia hit a big uranage and a Michinoku Driver, keeping things even. Sane fought back with a slam, pointed to the top rope, and nailed a beautiful 450 Splash for the pinfall victory.
Winner: Robin Sane
Given how hot the opener was, it’s incredible how well these two followed it up. After the match, Sane offered a handshake, but Valencia slapped him, hinting at future tension and building some great intrigue for their next encounter. It’s already noticeable how they are building intrigue for future shows rather than running the more house of the night style that previous events were more inclined to focus on. I would happily watch this match again though.
Match 3: WUW Philippines World Tag Team Championship: Turn Zero Kill (Ken Cifer & Saint John Martin Vs Ravena & Aaron Liwanag
The House of Light came out next, with Aaron Liwanag leading Serafin and Solomon, to face Ravena and the WUW Underground Tag Team Champions, Ken Cifer and Saint John Martin. It felt like an odd pairing between Ravenna and the champs, but the match quickly heated up. Ravena and Saint John Martin started, with SJM tying Ravena up early before Ken Cifer came in and took over with crisp armdrags and dropkicks. Ravena raked the eyes to get an advantage, but Cifer stayed composed.
The match turned into a brawl as Aaron Liwanag worked over Saint John Martin’s leg, leading to a brutal double knockdown. Ravena and Cifer re-entered fresh, but after some quick action, the Disciples of Light stormed the ring, attacking Cifer and Saint John Martin for a disqualification. Just when it seemed like things were over, Linus restarted the match as a no-DQ bout. The odds were 5-on-2, with the House of Light dominating.
Then Silent D made his shocking return, wielding a kendo stick and clearing house before Chelsea Marie intervened. After chaotic brawling, the House of Light managed to win the WUW Tag Titles when Ravena locked in a crossface and Saint John Martin passed out.
Winners: And New WUW Tag Team Champions Aaron Liwanag & Ravena
The match could have used five more minutes to really hit its potential, but the storytelling was excellent, introducing and establishing so many characters at once. Again, credit to the commentary team, who made it easy to follow even with all the madness going on.
After the match, matchmaker Miguel cameout and told the new champs they would face the Rockheads at Masterclash.
Match 4: Patricia Ligaia Vs Joya
Next came Patricia Ligaia vs. Joya, and although the match was short, it was another strong showcase. Ligaia started with some cheeky antics, tapping Joya’s face, but Joya soon took over with a clean armbar and an armdrag takedown. Joya dominated with snapmares and Meteoras in the corner, but Ligaia fired back with a discus lariat and her signature double leg drop for a near fall. After a fast-paced exchange, Joya caught Ligaia with the Killjoy for the win.
Winner: Joya
A short but intense match between the two frenemies here. It’s a shame there’s no women’s title yet in the Philippines because with talents like Ligaia, Joya, Chelsea Marie, Super P, Crystal, Ramona, and Robyn, there’s a fantastic division here that deserves a platform, especially when you add occasional visitors like Alexis Lee, Roxxy, or even Kamiyu.
Match 5: Puso Pinoy Championship - Main Maxx Vs Dr Gore
Dr. Gore got a huge reaction, while Main Maxx had an awesome entrance video highlighting his long career. They started slow, feeling each other out with tie-ups. Maxx got in some vicious chops and showed off, allowing Gore to drag him outside and slam him onto the apron. Gore went after Maxx’s arm with surgical precision, using the ring post and even smashing a chair for intimidation.
The match was a brutal, grinding affair. Maxx fought back with big body slams and handstand splashes, but Gore always targeted the limbs. They traded chops, forearms, and suplexes, neither man giving an inch. After two huge spears from Maxx, Gore kept kicking out, and it became a battle of attrition. Gore nearly won with a hurricane rana and a big boot, but Maxx powered through, hitting the Blitzkrieg and finally a brutal running back elbow (a slingblade to the back of the head) to retain the title.
Winner: And Still champion Main Maxx
Another competitive match up here with both men holding their own against the other. Afterward, Dr. Gore declined a handshake but showed a respectful nod. El Katipunero has already been announced as the next challenger, followed by a triple threat with Shivam and Miles Karu at Dakila, and if this match was anything to go by, the title scene is heating up.
Main Event: Super Friends (Super P & El Katipunero Vs Baliyan Akki & Mei Suruga)
Finally, it was time for the main event in the battle of friendship. The Super Friends got a big pop, debuting a new theme song, while Mei Suruga entered riding on Akki’s shoulders, playfully dancing her way to the ring while Akki looked terrified of slipping in the Brawlpit.
Mei and Super P started off with a lot of fun chain wrestling, but it didn’t take long for the Best Bros to show their nastier side. Mei faked a friendship heart only to bite P’s hand, and later choked her in the ropes while Akki battered El Katipunero with brutal chops. Despite the Best Bros clearly working heel, the crowd remained surprisingly split.
The action was wild and creative: Mei and Akki used each other as weapons, hitting splashes and double team attacks, while Super Friends fought back with a codebreaker-Russian leg sweep combo. Mei’s dirty tactics, including using paper cuts and foot stomps, kept the Best Bros in control for long stretches. When Super P and Katipunero fought back, they nearly won with a Heart Attack and a springboard codebreaker, but Mei managed to break it up.
The final stretch saw creative double-team moves, with Akki using Mei as a battering ram and splash weapon, leading to a final momentum-driven splash from Mei on Super P for the win. An absolutely sensational main event, packed with emotion, innovation, and heart.
Winners: Best Bros
After the match Super P thanks the fans watching at ringside and worldwide,
That’s the show, and what a show it was. I watched WrestleMania this month, and honestly, Wrestlestorm 2 was the best wrestling show I’ve seen on TV this year. If you have Triller (or even if you don’t), I urge you to watch Wrestlestorm 2. This event embodied everything that makes Southeast Asian wrestling special: colorful characters, lively fans, passionate wrestlers, and that unique underground vibe that gives it such a distinct flavor. Congratulations to DEXCON, Pinoy Wrestling, and especially to Super P — wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing what’s next.
A few other things worth noting - the smaller ring DEXCON uses really stood out, and I loved it. It gave the show a gritty, British indie feel that made the atmosphere even better.Special mention must be made to the commentary team, who added great energy and insight throughout.
