Wrestler(s) of the Week - The Vung Tau Xperience

We’ve traveled across the region to highlight some of the brightest up-and-coming stars in SEA Wrestling. We’ve covered male and female singles wrestlers—now, for some March Madness, we’re doubling up and presenting our first featured tag team!

Landing the SEA Wrestling jet back in Ho Chi Minh City, our Wrestlers of the Week are none other than the current Vietnam Pro Wrestling Tag Team Champions: Damien Wolfe and Phong Tran—The Vung Tau Xperience.

The Early Days of the Team

Both Wolfe and Tran were among the early trainees at the VPW Academy (as it is known today). They made their on-record debut in the main event of one of the company’s earliest mat shows—then called Saigon Pro Wrestling Club—at Saturday Showdown 2018. In that match, Tran pinned Wolfe, foreshadowing what was to come years later. Notably, this was also the night when future tag team partners Rocky and Sid faced off in a match of their own.

night when future tag team partners Rocky and Sid faced off in a match of their own.

The two wrestlers went their separate ways for some time until 2019, when they officially joined forces as The Vung Tau Xperience. Celebrating their heritage and the laid-back beach lifestyle of Saigon’s local seaside resort, they entered the scene with floral shirts and milk tea in hand. Initially, few expected them to dominate the tag division—especially after their early loss to The Mystic Warriors at Battle of Honor 2019.

However, momentum swung in their favor just three months later when they defeated The Saigon Hunters in the main event of Clash of Fate. This victory cemented them as a top team in VPW.

A month later, VTX got their revenge on The Mystic Warriors in triumphant fashion, defeating them to become the first-ever SPWC/VPW Tag Team Champions. Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic cut their reign short. They managed just one defense—against Kei & TJ Black at Immortal Glory 2019—before losing the belts to Air Tiger and An D when VPW debuted as Vietnam Pro Wrestling at Upgrade in July 2020.

Though Vietnam had a brief reprieve from COVID, restrictions meant both men had to sit out of training. They honed their skills at home until VPW War House: Roar of the Tiger 2022, when they capitalized on An D being without a partner and reclaimed the tag titles.

This reign was more successful, as they overcame makeshift teams like D. Austin & Sid Nguyen and Hy Draco & Khoa Truong before eventually dropping the belts to The Mystic Warriors at Ultimate Collision 2022. By then, VTX had solidified their place as a pillar of the VPW roster. But with two championship reigns under their belt, many wondered: What was next?

Betrayal and Treachery

Both men pursued singles stardom, entering the first VPW Rumble, where Damien Wolfe won the Sure Shot contract for a title match at any time, any place. However, in a shocking twist, it was Phong Tran who earned a shot at the Openweight Championship, facing Le Tyler at Saturday Showdown 2022.

Tran defeated Le Tyler to claim the belt, but before he could celebrate, his own partner and best friend Wolfe attacked him, cashed in the Sure Shot contract, and stole the championship for himself.

Their feud culminated at Brawl Hallow’s Eve 2022, where Wolfe knocked Tran unconscious to retain his title. Tran got a measure of revenge months later by teaming with Sid Nguyen to defeat Wolfe and his partner-for-the-night, D. Austin.

Separate Paths and Reunion

As the team drifted apart, both men hit rough patches. Wolfe lost the Openweight Championship to Ares in a quick defeat at The Rumble 2023, while Tran struggled in unsuccessful tag matches with Hy Draco and suffered consecutive singles losses to Xumin Long and Jimmy AG.

After Tran’s second straight loss, Wolfe confronted him about his losing streak (while ignoring his own misfortunes). Though Tran wasn’t receptive at first, by the next show—Ultimate Collision 2024The Vung Tau Xperience returned as surprise entrants in a tag title match and reclaimed the belts, proving once again that they were Vietnam’s most dominant tag team when united.

Since then, they’ve been at the forefront of Vietnam Pro Wrestling shows. What seemed like a fairytale reunion took a dark turn when they used cheap shots and underhanded tactics to defeat Billy and Bobby of The Classic Night in their first title defense. Though the VPW fans now despised them, they gained respect for their Match of the Year contender performance.

They ended 2025 with another win over The Classic Night at Brawl Hallow’s Eve and used more nefarious tactics to retain against Jack N Cheese from Singapore. In 2025, they continued their dominance by defeating Mighty Might & MJ Riz, though their condition remains uncertain after taking a devastating double basai drop from the massive Singaporean powerhouse.

Why Are They the Wrestlers of the Week?

The Vung Tau Xperience represents the early generation of VPW talent who worked hard to establish themselves as champions. Their matches are a spectacle, blending Phong Tran’s high-flying athleticism with Damien Wolfe’s powerhouse offense. Their signature Hawaiian shirts, milk tea, and mastery of classic heel antics make them one of the most entertaining—and hated—acts in Vietnam Pro Wrestling today.

What’s Next for VTX?

VTX started the year by calling out the multiverse—or as our Filipino friends might say, Planet Asia. So far, they’ve proven themselves against Singapore’s top tag teams. At the next show Saigon Slam on April 19th, they face their biggest challenge yet when they have to go up against three other Vietnamese teams in former champions Venom Shank, Vortex Rebellion (Kira & Xumin Long) and the new, yet unnamed double act of Khoa Truong and Henry.

Can The Vung Tau Xperience repeat their luck in multi team matches or is their time numbered? There’s only one way to find out and that’s get your tickets for Saigon Slam today!
