Wrestler of the Week: Monomoth – Thailand’s Rising Star

his week we head over to Thailand to explore one of the countries most popular Pro Wrestlers. He’s flamboyant, acrobatic and beloved, he’s the enigmatic Monomoth.

In the ever-expanding world of professional wrestling, certain names emerge from the fringes to demand attention, not because of marketing hype but because of sheer talent, dedication, and a magnetic presence that refuses to be ignored. This week, we turn our spotlight on one such wrestler—Monomoth, a standout from Thailand whose journey from local talent to international prospect has been nothing short of inspiring.

The Origins of a Prodigy

Monomoth's wrestling journey began long before he ever stepped into a ring. With a background in multiple martial arts—including Taekwondo, Judo, Muay Thai, and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu—his foundation was built on discipline and adaptability. These skills, honed in his high school years, set him apart from the average rookie.

His first formal taste of professional wrestling came when he participated in a training session with Gatoh Move Pro Wrestling at a Japan Expo event at CentralWorld in Bangkok. That two-hour session changed everything. Monomoth knew he had found his calling. He threw himself into training, spending two years as a trainee with Gatoh Move before making his debut in front of a modest crowd at Siam Square One, performing on mats rather than in a ring. From these humble beginnings, his journey began in earnest.

Making a Mark in SETUP Thailand Pro Wrestling

As one of the most dynamic competitors in SETUP Thailand Pro Wrestling, Monomoth has been pivotal in elevating the Southeast Asian wrestling scene. His unique style—blending traditional wrestling techniques with BJJ submissions and breathtaking gymnastics—quickly set him apart. He isn’t just another high-flyer or technical wrestler; he’s an artist in motion, constantly evolving his in-ring persona and skill set.

In July 2023, Monomoth took a major step forward when he competed in a triple threat match for the SETUP Openweight Championship against Masa Takanashi and Mikey Wild. While he didn’t walk away with the gold, his performance solidified his reputation as a top-tier talent in the region. His matches are often the highlight of any event, drawing fans not just for his skill but for his undeniable charisma.

Breaking International Barriers

The world took notice of Monomoth in 2024 when he stepped onto a global stage at GCW’s Effy’s Big Gay Brunch 9 during WrestleMania Weekend. This wasn’t just any showcase; it was an opportunity to prove that Thai wrestling could hang with some of the best independent talent in the world.

Monomoth didn’t just participate—he stole the show. Competing in a Fatal Four-Way Match against Aaron Rourke, Rico González, and Devon Monroe, Monomoth put on a performance that was widely suggested to be the match of the night. His blend of fluid movement, high-impact offense, and undeniable presence captivated the GCW audience. The match was a career-defining moment, cementing him as a legitimate international talent with limitless potential.

Character and Influence

What makes Monomoth truly special isn’t just his ability to wrestle; it’s the way he carries himself. His understanding of character work is well beyond his years. He’s meticulous about crafting a persona that resonates with the audience, understanding that wrestling isn’t just about what happens in the ring but also about the stories told beyond it.

His success has helped shine a brighter light on Southeast Asian wrestling, proving that talent from the region deserves global recognition. As one of the faces of Thai wrestling, Monomoth isn’t just building a career—he’s building a legacy.

The Current Roadblock

Unfortunately, Monomoth's momentum hit an unexpected roadblock earlier this year. In January 2025, he was sidelined due to an injury resulting from an assault by fellow wrestler Shivam. While details of the altercation remain limited, the injury has forced him to take an extended break from in-ring competition.

It’s a frustrating setback for a wrestler on the rise, but if there’s one thing we know about Monomoth, it’s that he’s a fighter. Injuries heal, time passes, and opportunities will come again. And when Monomoth makes his return, he won’t just be picking up where he left off—he’ll be coming back with something to prove.

The Future of Monomoth

Looking ahead, there’s no doubt that Monomoth’s best days are still to come. With his undeniable talent, growing international reputation, and the support of an ever-expanding fanbase, his future is bright. Whether he returns to claim the SETUP Openweight Championship or ventures deeper into the global wrestling scene, one thing is clear—Monomoth is a name that the wrestling world needs to keep an eye on.

For now, we wish him a full and speedy recovery. The ring may be missing him, but when he returns, expect nothing less than fireworks.
