Wrestler of the Week: Kelvin

This week, as we shine the spotlight on Grapplemax, it’s only fitting that our Wrestler of the Week is one of their most exciting young prospects — Kelvin. Though still early in his career, Kelvin has already demonstrated the kind of promise and presence that suggest a bright future ahead, not just in Singapore but potentially on the international stage.

Humble Beginnings and Early Matches

Kelvin made his pro wrestling debut with Grapplemax in 2023, stepping into the ring as a fresh-faced trainee with plenty to prove. His early outings saw him face off against competitors who would later become his closest allies — members of the chaotic faction known as Showtime Inc.

In one of his first high-profile matches, Kelvin was teamed up with Crypto Bro LK and Ryan against a trio that included Julian, Prabu, and Showtime himself — names he now associates with as part of the same faction. Despite the loss, Kelvin stood out with a surprisingly polished performance, going beyond the usual “rookie match” expectations by comfortably working matches that extended to the 10-minute mark — a rare trait among many newcomers in the global wrestling scene.

Earning Respect and Stirring Controversy

As 2024 rolled in, Kelvin continued to build his in-ring résumé, gaining valuable ring time and slowly beginning to rack up wins. One notable victory came at the very first Amplify event, where Kelvin managed to pin a member of Showtime Inc. However, the win came under controversial circumstances — it was later revealed that Kelvin had helped orchestrate a comical but effective “duster tickle” spot that distracted Prabu, leading to the upset. The stunt, while polarizing, helped earn Kelvin a place in the very group he had just defeated: Showtime Inc.

His inclusion in the group didn’t immediately lead to a dramatic shift in his win-loss record, though. He continued to face strong opponents, including old friends like SPD, showing that his journey through the ranks wouldn’t be an easy one. But what he lacked in dominant victories, he made up for in storytelling, character development, and gradual growth.

The Scottish Excursion: Training Abroad

The second half of 2024 marked a major milestone in Kelvin’s development. He embarked on an excursion to Glasgow, Scotland, where he trained at the Glasgow Pro Wrestling Asylum, a school closely associated with the legendary Scottish promotion ICW (Insane Championship Wrestling).

This overseas experience allowed Kelvin to immerse himself in a different wrestling culture, learning from some of the UK’s top trainers and honing his in-ring psychology and technical prowess. By the time he returned to Singapore for Amplify 6, it was clear he had leveled up both physically and mentally.

Tension Within Showtime Inc

However, upon returning home, Kelvin was met not with celebration, but with confrontation. His Showtime Inc partner Julian, didn’t offer a warm welcome. Instead, Julian’s hostility was on full display — first at Amplify 6, and then again during their chaotic triple threat match at Causeway Jam, where tension between the two cost them a crucial match against KAIZUL of MYPW.

Now, with another major match looming — Kelvin vs. Jordan this weekend — the question becomes: Can Kelvin and Julian function as a cohesive unit, or are we witnessing the implosion of Showtime Inc?

A Future Worth Watching

Like many of his peers in Grapplemax, Kelvin is part of a new wave of Southeast Asian talent who are helping shape the future of regional pro wrestling. He’s young, hungry, charismatic, and increasingly well-traveled. His look, skillset, and in-ring maturity set him apart as a name to watch — especially now, as Grapplemax expands its horizons through international partnerships with promotions like WrestleFest DXB in Dubai and PWS: Korea.

Kelvin’s wrestling journey is just beginning, but if his early steps are any indication, this is a name we could be hearing a lot more of in the years to come.
