Wrestler of the Week: Jake De Leon – The Filipino Fighting Rooster

This week’s spotlight falls on one of Southeast Asia’s most respected and decorated pro wrestlers: Jake De Leon—a man leading the resistance against the sinister Real Global Threat faction while flying the flag for Pinoy and SEA wrestling across the globe.

Known as The Senyorito, De Leon’s journey began in 2014 when he co-founded Philippine Wrestling Revolution (PWR), helping to kickstart the modern era of Philippine pro wrestling. His rise was immediate—he became the inaugural PWR Champion in May 2015 and followed that up by winning the first-ever Path of Gold Tournament that same year. He would reclaim the PWR title in 2016 at Wrevolution X, solidifying his place at the top of the promotion.

Throughout his PWR tenure, JDL was at the center of some of its most memorable rivalries, battling the likes of “Classical” Bryan Leo, John Sebastian, and Ralph Imabayashi. He also captured the PHX Championship, joining a select few who held multiple titles in the promotion’s history.

From Manila to the World

De Leon made his Manila Wrestling Federation (MWF) debut in 2018 and returned in 2022 during MWF Aksyonovela TV’s second season. At Road To Fate 2022, he captured the MWF Championship, becoming only the third man to do so. Today, he leads the faction Oro Plata Mata, continuing to shape the narrative in MWF as a key player and leader.

International Experience

De Leon's impact isn't limited to the Philippines. His first major international appearance came in 2018 when he teamed with fellow Pinoy star Robin Sane to face The Horrors (Dr. Gore & Da Butcherman) in Singapore. Though the match ended in defeat, it marked the beginning of a regional run where he faced top names like Shaukat, The Statement, and Aiden Rex in Singapore Pro Wrestling.

He also ventured into Thailand, competing in the Sawsaddee Asian Cup in a three-way tag team match alongside John Sebastian against teams featuring Grapplemax standout Greg Glorious, The Ladykiller, Surendra Singh, and Zorro.

But perhaps the highlight of his international resume came in August 2023, when De Leon fulfilled a dream of many wrestlers: competing in Japan, including a match inside the legendary Korakuen Hall. Years earlier, he also attended a WWE tryout in China, which he described as one of the most challenging and educational experiences of his life.

A Star at Home and Abroad

Since the end of MWF’s run, De Leon has been a driving force behind Brawlpit’s three promotions: Dexcon, World Underground Wrestling (WUW), and PUSO. His work behind the scenes and in the ring has helped elevate the entire SEA wrestling ecosystem.

In 2024, he went to a 30-minute draw with Zack Sabre Jr. in a match that gained attention globally and reminded the wrestling world of his elite technical skill. He recently followed that up with a standout tag match, teaming with Yoshi Tatsu against Jomar and Fabio Makisig.

Now, all eyes turn to Dexcon: Dakila on May 18, where De Leon teams once again with Sabre Jr. to take on El Phantasmo and Fabio Makisig—a match that promises to be another instant classic.

The Filipino Fighting Rooster

In 2025, Jake De Leon isn’t just a standout performer—he’s a symbol of Filipino resilience and pride, a true ambassador for Southeast Asian wrestling. Whether it’s at home or abroad, you can count on De Leon to deliver high-quality matches that thrill fans and raise the bar for everyone else.

He’s more than just technically sound—he’s a leader, a mentor, and a fighter. That’s why Jake De Leon is our Wrestler of the Week.
