The Rumble: Five Most Memorable Moments

Vietnam Pro Wrestling's The Rumble is right around the corner. The always sold out extravaganza never fails to live up to its reputation as the most unpredictable and all out night of the Vietnam Pro Wrestling calendar.

Every year the Rumble match itself takes twists and turns that provide shock and awe to the VPW faithful. SEA Wrestling counts down five of the most memorable moments in Rumble history.

5. Jimmy AG returns and tricks Jake De Leon

Last year VPW saw three of the most dastardly men from around Southeast Asia form an alliance. Da Butcherman, Miles Karu and Jake De Leon all had a bone to pick with VPW and its wrestlers due to previous losses, some recent, some years ago.

During the Rumble match, when faced with squaring off against one another, the three decided to unite in their hatred of Vietnam Pro Wrestling and its success. After taking down the field and surviving, it was to the delight of the fans when Jimmy AG made a triumphant return and faced off with Jake De Leon.

In comedy fashion, he offered the Filipino Fighting Rooster one of his rubber chickens as a sign of friendship before surprising him with an attack to take Mr Philippine Wrestling out of the Rumble to a huge ovation.

4. Phuong Nam debuts

In 2023 the Rumble saw a small interlude where The Classic Night and their best friend Xavier Patricks dominated the ring. In this moment the trio chose to play some board games, do a dance and generally have fun. That was until, out of nowhere, critically acclaimed comedian of Saigon Teu fame Phuong Nam made his way to the ring as the next entrant.

The crowd went wild as the biggest celebrity to that point ever to enter the VPW ring made his way in and took on X-Pat loudmouth to loudmouth. The conflict would get cut short when An D made his way in and kicked the head off of Phuong Nam, but this interaction would kick off a months long feud between Saigon's favourite foreigner and comedian.

Nobody expected him to become the manager of the greatest Vietnamese wrestler of all time in Ares, nor did they expect him and X-Pat to bury the hatchet in 2025.

3. Ares and Hy Draco tear the house down

In 2024, a heated rivalry would enter what may have been its most ferocious chapter to that point. Wounds that had yet to heal got opened again when Hy Draco was face to face with The Unstoppable Force. It didn't last long, but this fracas saw the duo blow the roof off the arena, with Ares busted open leading to his elimination.

This was only a prelude to the fantastic matches to come over the next two years.

2. The X-Pat gets an elimination

This year will mark Xavier Patricks' fifth Rumble match. An annual tradition that sees a weirder and wilder outfit and ever so bizarre antics go down. In 2024, his luck changed when he got his first elimination, technically.

While being forced over the ring by Billy and Bobby, Popstar Phong Tran was gripping onto the ropes for dear life. That is until X-Pat made his entrance and tipped the balance, sending him over the edge.

Unfortunately Patricks wouldn't last much longer. He enters the Rumble once again this year. Fifth time's a charm perhaps?

1. Master and apprentice concession stand brawl

Back in 2023, Vietnam Pro Wrestling's Sensei Fugo Fugo Yumeji returned for his second visit to the promotion. Despite being on opposite teams during his first visit, the Vovinam master seemed to be aligning with Rocky Huynh for the Rumble, as The Awesome Taurus helped unveil the banner and dance with his sensei and Hy Draco.

So when Fugo dropped Rocky it created a gasp, then a hush through the crowd, as the duo left the ringside area and brawled all the way to and through the concessions and merchandise. Rocky eventually dispatched his mentor and was able to win the match.
