Vietnam Pro Wrestling - Spring Bash 2025 Final Card Rundown

We’re just one week away from VPW’s first show of 2025, Spring Bash, and it’s absolutely breathtaking that the origins of this promotion are now a decade behind us. From a couple of young guys throwing each other around on mats in a gymnasium to being called the hottest night of entertainment in Vietnam (and it wasn’t just X-Pat saying that either!)—not to mention the overwhelming international support from people like AEW superstar Viva Van and all-time pro wrestling legend Chris Jericho with his upcoming documentary on the promotion—the growth of Vietnam Pro Wrestling has been staggering.

It’s therefore fitting that we’re starting off this year with the roster trying to settle scores, overcome challenges, and show some of the top regional talent who’s best.

Let’s take a look at the five matches that make up the show.

Handicap Match – Venom Shank vs. Billy (w/ Phuong Nam & Bobby)

It appears that Phuong Nam is continuing his quest to make the lovable fan favorites of The Classic Night something more to his liking. That might simply be a winning team, but based on his words over the last couple of shows, it appears to be something akin to a mean, aggressive war machine like Ares.

After Bobby managed to scrape a victory against the demonic G Sharpe at Immortal Glory, it’s Billy’s turn to step up to the plate and face the duo of Venom Shank one-on-one. We wouldn’t be surprised if Bobby is still too traumatized to step back into the ring at this point.

We’re not quite sure what Phuong Nam’s thinking is here—whether it’s to embarrass the lovable duo, toughen them up, or simply get himself some more camera time. Whatever it is, Billy will have his hands full with the crafty siblings and certainly needs to watch out for their mist attack. One other thing that has likely not been forgotten by Venom Shank is that Billy and Bobby managed to defeat them way back at this event’s namesake in 2023 to win the vacant VPW Tag Team Championships.

VPW Tag Team Championship – Vung Tau Experience vs. Mighty Mighty & Hunting 'MJ'Wolf Riz

It wasn’t long ago that we saw VTX make their bold statement about wanting challengers from the multiverse of wrestling. The duo claimed they had conquered the local tag division with wins over Venom Shank, Jack N’ Cheese, and The Classic Night in recent months.

Well, gentlemen, the wrestling gods have answered, and Singapore Pro Wrestling has sent over a random multiverse team of their own to come looking for tag team gold while their set is being held hostage in Kuala Lumpur.

Some readers might remember Mighty Mighty from a few months ago when he made a surprise appearance in the VPW Rumble 2024. Somewhat of a tag team specialist himself, Mighty Mighty has been engaged in an ongoing feud with The Midnight Bastards in Singapore, which has required a few tag team partners in Destroyer Dharma and Black Arrow. On top of these two teammates, the giant Mighty has also tagged with D. Austin in a shot at the VPW Tag Titles previously during Saturday Showdown 2022 (coincidentally, when our champions were having a certain incident I won’t mention). This time, he’s pulled another friend out of his hat in Hunting Wolf Riz.

Riz is a man on the rise in Singapore Pro Wrestling. Coming from tough times, including a stint of being homeless, he has used pro wrestling to fight his way off the streets into title contendership. Right now, he’s gunning for a shot at Bryson Blade’s new Hardcore Championship. With that in mind, VTX need to realize that they are going up against a heavy hitter with a wealth of tag team experience who is bringing along a man who will stop at nothing to achieve success—including hurting opponents in hardcore action.

But wait, there's been a change. The Hunting Wolf will not be in attendance. Instead we will see Riz power up and old gimmick at the request of his tag team partner. We will see the return of MJ Riz!

Can the champions overcome the odds, or will they live to regret their words?

Ares (w/ Phuong Nam) vs. Aiden Rex

Our second of the two international contests sees SPW main eventer Aiden Rex coming over to face the hyper-dominant Ares. Rex has an impressive résumé, including wrestling in Japan, India, Malaysia, and his home of Singapore. He’s had two extensive title runs with the SPW Southeast Asian Championship, lasting 724 days, and the SPW Singapore Championship, coming in at 574 days.

The experience and long reigns of his opponent cannot sit well with Ares (whose own title reigns have not been quite as long) and manager Phuong Nam, who appear to be on a crusade of dominance against all who step in their way.

However, it's debatable who has the upper hand in this contest—the larger Ares, who has been able to rest up over the last few months and get ready for his next fight, or the smaller, more nimble Rex, who warmed up a few weeks ago in the semi-main event of SPW Champions Never Yield 3.

It’s experience vs. size and aggression in this potential match-of-the-night candidate.

Guerilla Games – Team Sid (Sid Nguyen, Hydraco, Khoa Truong & Henry) vs. Vortex Rebellion (Kira, KPY, D. Austin & Xumin Long)

2024 wasn’t a great year for Vortex Rebellion. The original pair of Kira and KPY received minimal matches, often being left off cards and losing when they were booked. The same unlucky fate befell the behemoth D. Austin, who for most of last year was more like the invisible man. Perhaps their newest member, Xumin Long, had the worst year of all—from losing his original tag team partner to a bump on the head and the birth of Jimmy AG to the same man humiliating him by ripping off his treasured mask a few months ago.

However, these four men have now come together with a mission: to take themselves to the top of VPW by decimating whoever they feel stands in their way—be it old friends, enemies, or even champions.

Standing in their way are four men looking to settle a score. First up is the team captain, Sid Nguyen, who hasn’t won a match since early last year (over Vortex Rebellion at Spring Bash 2024). Sid wasn’t targeted directly but stepped in to defend what he felt was right—his friend Khoa Truong.

Joining them are Hydraco and VPW Academy graduate "Trigger" Henry. With Henry’s promising debut in the Rumble, Sid has given him a massive chance to shine in this all-out brawl.

Will Vortex Rebellion find redemption, or will Team Sid prove they belong at the top?

Watch Sid's challenge.

Devil’s Barbershop, Hair vs. Hair – British Horror vs. Rocky Huynh

The British Horror has certainly been the devil on the shoulder of Rocky Huynh for the last few months. Not even giving the former VPW Openweight Champion time to recover after losing the belt at Brawl Hallow’s Eve, Horror was in his face, taunting him about being a loser.

This led to their first bout at Immortal Glory, where Horror, with the help of his new disciples and Princess Death, secured victory—leading to the usually calm Rocky storming out of the arena.

Backstage, Horror insulted Rocky over his look, star power, and, of course, his hair. The cocky Brit then challenged him to a Hair vs. Hair match, which we’ll see at Spring Bash.

The rivalry even ended up spilling into a local barbershop.

If Rocky wins, we’ll have a fantastic photo for the next issue of SEA Wrestling—courtesy of The British Horror’s new chrome dome!

Spring Bash is absolutely stacked, and the good news for readers is that there are still tickets available (Link).
