VPW Spring Bash 2025 - Preview and Predictions

A big weekend of wrestling is upon us with WrestleMania and all the shows and events surrounding it. But while the fans in America are complaining about prices on the strip or a disappointing card of action, Vietnam gets ready for its second night of exciting, live professional wrestling in the month of April — and it certainly won’t disappoint.
Vietnam Pro Wrestling brings back another packed edition of Saigon Slam this year, which is one of the top events in the VPW calendar. Last year’s event saw the first VPW Women’s Champion crowned when Yuki Kamifuku defeated Alexis Lee, an appearance from the marvelous Shota, and Venom Shank upsetting the Saigon Hunters. This year’s event promises to be even bigger, with a star-studded line-up of international talent and a roster thirsty for more action after the success of Ho Tram Slam. You could say it’s been a slammin’ month.
Anyway, here’s the card and our predictions.

Match 1: A Matter of Respect – ‘The Prince of Wrestling’ Sid Nguyen vs. KPY
It’s mentor vs. mentee in this match when first-generation Sid takes on someone he helped train in KPY. Over the last few years, KPY has had to endure losses, lower-card matches, and being sat on the sidelines, while in his eyes, Sid hogged the glory and preached to him about how to be successful. After a run of success with the new and improved Vortex Rebellion was cut short when his old mentor pinned his shoulders to the mat in humiliating fashion at Spring Bash, KPY has seen red.
Sid, on the other hand, has had enough of his protégé taking the easy way out, hiding behind his faction, and behaving in a way unbecoming of what The Prince believes a Vietnamese pro wrestler should represent. After seeing the rage building in KPY following Guerrilla Games, Sid feels he has no option but to take KPY on man to man.
This isn’t about Vortex Rebellion, power, or titles. This is about respect. One man wishes to earn it from his senior, while the other feels he needs to beat a little into the junior. The weather might be getting hotter in Saigon, but it will be this match testing the AC units at VAIB Studios for sure.
Prediction: This is a tough match to call. Sid just suffered a loss at Ho Tram Slam and could potentially be weakened, but KPY is coming into this with a hot head and might not keep his cool. Our prediction is a win for Sid.

Match 2: Scramble Madness – VPW Tag Team Championship – Vung Tau Experience © vs. Venom Shank vs. Henry & Khoa Truong vs. Vortex Rebellion
No challengers from around the Asiaverse were willing to step up to the dominant champions at this show. Even The Juicy Boyz apparently preferred not to take them on when offered and flew home early, fearing for the safety of their own SPW Tag Team Titles if the match was for both. As a result, VPW matchmakers decided to throw the cocky champs their biggest local challenge yet.
VTX, however, are apparently not worried, as if you remember, the duo managed to not only overcome their differences but win the VPW Tag Team Championship back in a multi-man match last year (Ultimate Collision 2024). It’s clear they know what to do in these types of situations, so they could have an advantage.
Venom Shank, however, have an even bigger boasting point going into this match: they managed to win the championships in a full four-way tag team match that cemented them as one of the top teams in the company. In this particular match, they were the underdogs going up against...
Current tag champion Phong Tran tagging with current Openweight Champion Hy Draco
Singapore legend Eurasian Dragon and his partner, the monstrous BGJ
New Japan icons The Natural Classics (who are appearing this weekend also).
If Venom Shank can overcome those odds, surely they’re a favorite.
Vortex Rebellion will be represented by Kira and Xumin Long in this match, which, being a scramble rules match (typically meaning when one man leaves the ring, another is legal), could be a huge advantage. This is because high-flying action and a lot of stamina are a must. If they bring the towering D. Austin to accompany them, then they’ve got a huge chance at winning.
Our wildcard team of Henry & Khoa might well be the outliers. They haven’t tagged much together, and Henry’s inexperience makes it difficult to put money on them. However, Khoa has been part of several tag teams throughout his history, and alongside Henry’s hunger for more victories in VPW, determination and grit alone could help these two reach tag team gold.
Prediction: As much as these three challengers bring to the ring on the night, we think that somehow the VTX lads will secure the win. Not only due to the roll they’re currently on but also because we still want that VTX vs. Saigon Hunters dream match!

Match 3: Fight for Freedom – The Natural Classics vs. The Classic Night
Well, this match is likely to be classic based on the name alone! Jokes aside, this is one heated situation we find ourselves in.
Heading back to Brawl Hallow’s Eve, The Classic Night boys were approached by Vietnam’s only wrestling manager, Phuong Nam, who offered — or better yet, outright forced — his managerial services on the pair, who, being the lovable gents they are, somehow agreed to it.
Things started off poorly as Phuong Nam tried to teach them a lesson. In the first test, Bobby was sent out to face the agile and aggressive American G Sharpe, who did long-lasting punishment to Bobby. However, even in defeat, Nam was furious that the two would not get serious, preferring to dance and play with their adoring fans.
Then at Spring Bash in February, Phuong Nam orchestrated a handicap match that saw Venom Shank beat Billy while Bobby had to remain on the sidelines.
As his plan to turn the two large gentlemen into aggressive killers had not worked, Phuong Nam was furious. The Classic Night boys had seen enough too, but Nam swung his power and wealth at them, refusing to let them out of their ironclad contract, showing exactly the spoiled little boy he is.
Instead, he offered them one shot: win against a team of his choosing, and he will let them go. Unfortunately, that team was none other than strong-style enthusiasts and up-and-coming New Japan Pro Wrestling team The Natural Classics.
We’ve seen Billy and Bobby overcome so much already in their short careers, but can they defeat one of the fastest rising tag teams in the world?
Prediction: We can’t see anything but a win for The Natural Classics here. They have the strength and experience edge. Sadly, we expect this to be a humiliating defeat for our beloved Classic Night.

Match 4: The Heavyweight Spectacular – ‘The Unstoppable Force’ Ares vs. ‘The Unforgettable’ Mighty Mighty
Both these men are coming off unforgettable moments from the last show — Ares for his strong defeat of Aiden Rex, and Mighty Mighty for his worldwide-trending double banzai drop on VTX.
Mighty Mighty is back, not only for his love of the VPW fans, but to try and strike up that precious first win in a VPW ring that could lead him towards a future singles title shot. In the other corner, the insatiable Ares is ready for his heaviest challenge yet. We’ve seen the local powerhouse use his full force on smaller opponents to devastating degrees in the past, but now he must pick on someone his own size — or maybe even bigger — in Mighty Mighty.
A win here for Ares could be a step back toward the VPW Openweight Championship that slipped through his fingers in minutes last year. The question remains if he has forgiven Phuong Nam and if he will join him in the corner or not during this bout.
The big Singaporean’s motto might be “Let’s have some fun,” but we feel this match is going to be anything but fun.
Prediction: We love Mighty, but have to stand behind Ares and his impressive streak against international talent here.

Match 5: International Dream Match – ‘Golden Boy’ Emman Azman vs. ‘The Awesome Taurus’ Rocky Huynh
Azman recently returned to Malaysia after a long stint in Australia and is hungry to assert his dominance across Southeast Asia, which starts with beating the VPW founder in his home arena. A win here will set The Golden Boy up for his matches in Singapore, Malaysia, and The Philippines next month. In wrestling, momentum is everything.
Whereas his opponent Rocky hasn’t had such a run of luck over the last few months — losing his title, hair, and potentially his mind — since his feud with The British Horror ended. Things got worse a few nights ago when he was defeated by ‘Big’ Bobby in a show-stealing match in Ho Tram. Questions still remain about the founder’s sanity, especially after he did not appear at the Ho Tram press conference. Perhaps more than anyone on the roster, Rocky needs a win here.
Prediction: Rocky. He can’t afford to lose this one.

Main Event: VPW Openweight Championship – Vietnam vs. UK, Good vs. Evil – Hy Draco © vs. The British Horror
The British Horror has an impressive win/loss record in VPW, with only one singles pinfall loss in his entire time in the promotion. Thanks to this impressive record, Horror not only feels he deserves a title shot, but he is outright entitled to it over anyone else on the roster.
Hy Draco, meanwhile, continues to impress with his recent pinfall victory in the main event of Ho Tram Slam, solidifying him as the top man to beat in Vietnam right now. It’s likely Draco is not fearing the Horror but getting ready to take his revenge for a heinous attack during a basketball game a few weeks ago.
This might be a new feud, but things have already heated up between the two young competitors. Not only is the VPW Openweight Championship on the line, but the pride of Vietnam as well, with Horror being the first challenger for the belt not of Vietnamese origin. What’s more, Horror could decide to take a long vacation, as he has in previous years, over the summer — leaving VPW without a singles championship until he returns, if he returns. A title as prestigious as the VPW Openweight would surely bring fame and accolades across the UK and Europe. Rumor has it that Andy Quildan of RPW has already made some calls to his old friend about headlining a series of events at York Hall, while former WCW thriller Alex Wright suggested he would hire the Uber Arena, come out of retirement, and wrestle for the title himself.
We hope that Hy Draco overcomes the odds and finds a way to keep the formidable Disciples and Princess Death at bay in this one. Who will come out of Saigon Slam the champion? There’s only one way to find out — get your tickets for Saigon Slam now.
Prediction: We’re going to go with the wily Hy Draco on this one. He’s been on such a roll that we can’t see any other way than ending Saigon Slam on an absolute high!
