Vietnam Pro Wrestling - Vietnamania December 6th – Preview

This weekend, not just the end of a phenomenal year is celebrated but the achievements after ten years of the little wrestling promotion that could. From a ragtag bunch of teenagers practicing on dirty gym mats to a wrestling promotion that boasts 16 straight venue sellouts, Chris Jericho as a media partner and running one of Asia’s most famous five-star resorts. The past decade of Vietnam Pro Wrestling is a true celebration of stacking those small wins, hustling and giving 110%.

The event itself boasts wrestlers from all over Southeast Asia coming to tie up with the VPW roster, all titles on the line and a match that has never been done before in the recorded history of professional wrestling.

Champions will be tested, legends will be made and brothers collide on this star-studded spectacular.

International Tag Team Royal Rumble

In a rare one-of-a-kind match, 14 men in 7 teams enter the ring, one team leaves with the right to claim themselves to be the most dominant team in Southeast Asia. Making up the field for this extravaganza:

“Lyrical Lightning” Miles Karu & Da Butcherman
A duo formed in the last VPW Rumble out of mutual respect for each other and mutual hatred of the VPW fans. Both former SPW Tag Team Champions who know how to get the job done in a tag team match.

Vortex Rebellion’s Kira and D. Austin
A duo that have been with VPW from the Saigon Pro Wrestling Club days. Both would love to win as a testament to their dedication to VPW.

Henry & Khoa Truong
Perhaps the latter desires this tag team more than the former. With a start to their team-up being less than stellar, can a win in the rumble persuade Henry that a team with Khoa is the right path forward in VPW?

Jack N’Cheese
They are back by popular demand. After a year the current SPW Tag Team Champions and one of Southeast Asia’s hottest acts make their way back to Vietnam. This time they aren’t joking around either, they’ve gone on a mile diet, given up the beer and getting ready to win the rumble. BGJ, the only man in the world to be a champion in VPW and SPW, wants another shot at the VPW gold.

Meteor Kid & KPY
Vietnam Pro Wrestling’s fastest rising star and one of the most agile wrestlers in the region (trust me, I’ve been in the ring with Meteor) team up in a new pairing. KPY’s main goal might be ensuring his former teammates don’t win but can they also go the distance?

Damien Wolfe & An D
Another pair of true VPW originals put their former differences aside to win it for the founding fathers of the promotion and of course the currently out-of-action Phong Tran!

Mighty Mighty & Mason
Yes readers, you've read that right. In some strange joke from VPW and SPW matchmakers Mighty Mighty has been paired with a man he’s been battling all year long. Will Mighty Mason be a total disaster or send both competitors to new heights?

Old couples, new couples and odd couples, the Rumble will be unlike any other match, expect the unexpected.

SEA Wrestling’s Prediction - This is a close call but we’re going to back the pair currently holding the gold. Jack N’Cheese win going the distance from, err, let’s say number 2.

Xiumin Long Vs Jimmy AG

The Rivalry

No rivalry represents the history of Vietnam Pro Wrestling at Vietnamania than this one. To recap Long & Jimmy are two 2016 originals of the Saigon Pro Wrestling Club. As the Mystic Warriors, the duo delighted fans back in the dance hall days of the promotion and became firm favorites.

If that’s not enough, it was the duo’s costume designs that brought the ragtag crew from trainees to superstars in the eyes of the early fans. The Mystic Warriors are truly one important puzzle piece in this company’s history (read SEA Wrestling Issue 6 for more).

The Split

But good times never last and after an injury in 2023 sent Xiumin Long onto the sidelines the team never regained their momentum. Come Spring Bash 2023 and the main event saw an angry Ares decimate Rikyoh. The former Mystic Warrior would never be the same again.

Waking up from his daze, he no longer remembers his previous ways or tag team partner. Instead a man very much of his hometown An Giang was born. Jimmy AG was very unlike his previous persona. He was cocky, arrogant and somewhat overbearing.

The Feud Reignites

After not crossing paths for some time, at Brawl Hallow’s Eve 2024 the duo would face off in a singles match where hope was ended of a reunion when Jimmy AG ripped the mask off Xiumin Long and pinned him.

Sadly for Jimmy an injury outside of VPW would send him away for 8 long months. In that time Long would become a member of the dastardly Vortex Rebellion faction.

Now he’s back and already causing mayhem. Although not wrestling at Brawl Hallow’s Eve, the man from An Giang snuck into the building and confronted the Vortex Rebellion group. The outcome? Another clash with his former partner and current arch rival Xiumin Long.

But this time the roles are different. Long, once the hero of our story, is now hated by fans as a lackey for Kira while Jimmy has become an instant hero standing up to foreign invaders and The Founder in the rumble.

Why It Matters

It’s VPW Original Vs VPW Original in this veteran encounter ten years in the making. It’s going to be the fast-paced, high-octane drama that kept you all coming back to Vietnam Pro Wrestling year after year.

Brother Vs Brother: Rensho Vs Dokuga

The Implosion

The unthinkable happened at Brawl Hallow’s Eve and Vietnam Pro Wrestling will never be the same again. Once considered the solid backbone of the VPW tag team division, Venom Shank imploded following the second straight loss in a matter of weeks to The Classic Night.

Following Dokuga’s mistimed mist, Billy and Bobby were able to retain the titles. Dokuga’s reward for this mistake was a Singapore cane to the skull ending not just a tag team, not just a friendship but a brotherhood.

Rensho’s Breaking Point

Rensho was heard crying out, “why do people only remember your name?” Rensho feels forgotten, like the second brother. In the ring, at home, everywhere. He believes Dokuga isn’t as strong, skilled or smart as him and it was finally time to put his brother down.

What to Expect

Together for life, a tag team since birth and causing havoc in Vietnam Pro Wrestling since 2020, the mischievous twins now turn on each other. Expect anything but a fair fight from these two especially when they know each other’s tricks so well. Anything could happen.

Vietnam Pro Wrestling Tag Team Championship: The Classic Night © Vs The Rocky Horror Show - A Blind Box Bash

Champions vs Entitled Challengers

The first title match of the night will see the most deserving champions in VPW history take on the most entitled challengers.

Ever since uniting at Saigon Slam last Spring both Rocky and The British Horror have been getting more and more insufferable. As much as their attitudes disgust the VPW faithful, their talent can’t be denied (read more in this article).

Championship Stakes

In their first outing as a team the duo swiftly defeated Khoa and Henry showing pure, evil-bound unity. Now with Princess Death at their side it’s likely they will walk out of Vietnamania as the Tag Team Champions. That’s if the heart and determination of Billy and Bobby doesn’t prevail once again.

But this isn’t just any match, it’s a Blind Box Bash. The infamous blind boxes will be scattered all around the ring. Anything could be inside, tables, chairs, chains or perhaps even a Mighty Mighty themed Labubu!

This match might not be the fastest, it might not be the most technical but it will be the one that leaves fans on the edge of their seat.

Vietnam Pro Wrestling Openweight Championship: Ares Vs The Statement Andreuw Tang

Who Is Andreuw Tang?

If you haven’t taken a look at the wider world of Southeast Asian wrestling yet then let me introduce you to one of the founding fathers of this region, Andreuw Tang, one of the most acclaimed wrestlers in the region.

Career Highlights

Founded Singapore Pro Wrestling in 2012, the longest running promotion in the region.
Multiple time champion across the region and beyond including:
5 X Singapore Pro Wrestling Southeast Asia Champion
SPW Tag Team Champion with NXT’s Dante Chen
2x AWGC Junior Heavyweight Champion
SETUP Thailand Openweight Champion
SETUP Thailand Tag Team Champion
Wrestled all over the world including Singapore, Malaysia, The Philippines, Thailand, China, Japan, Hong Kong and India.
Faced off against internationally acclaimed talent including - Kenny Omega, Trent Seven, Pete Dunne, Tajiri and Tetsuya Naito

The Stakes

Undoubtedly, The Statement brings a huge experience edge to this match where his main goal is to capture a new championship for his Real Global Threat faction and demonstrate dominance over Vietnam Pro Wrestling.

The worrying thing is that with an entourage of Singapore Pro Wrestling roster members joining Vietnamania, could even regular nemesis to The Statement like Butcherman, Jack N’Cheese or Mighty Mighty come to Tang’s aid to take a title back to Singapore? Even if that does fail, longstanding ally Mason is here!

Ares’ Challenge

But Ares has defeated the odds before with his raw strength and power. To Ares and manager Phuong Nam, The Statement is just another international victim looking to be speared back all the way to the airport.

This time the threat isn’t power like Da Butcherman, it isn’t technical like Jake De Leon, it’s pure wit and ring intelligence only found in a world-travelled veteran such as The Statement who has spent over a decade doing whatever is necessary to get ahead.

Why This Match Matters

It’s old school vs new school, it’s brains vs brawn, it’s the ultimate international clash in Southeast Asian wrestling and you can only see it at Vietnamania.

Vietnam Pro Wrestling Women’s Championship: Viva Van © Vs Crystal

Viva Van Returns to Vietnam

Viva Van returns to Vietnam this Saturday. The AEW wrestler, VPW Women’s Champion and hall of famer is as integral to the rise of Vietnam Pro Wrestling as anyone. You’ll need to read The Story of VPW in SEA Wrestling Issue 6 for more on that but when you sit down to watch Vietnamania look forward to that ring you see was possible thanks to your Women’s champion.

Her Opponent: Crystal

In her first outing two years ago she faced and defeated her mentor Sumie Sakai, now as VPW Women’s Champion (after defeating Yuki Kamifuku in Japan May 2025) she is defending the title for the first time since its inception back on home ground.

Her opponent is none other than someone else who has history with VPW and is celebrating her own 10 year anniversary in The Queen of Philippine Wrestling Crystal. Back in 2023, she was one of the two women to compete in a women’s wrestling match in Vietnam for the first time alongside Alexis Lee. It’s only fitting then that two of Viva Van’s matches on this tour see her facing those two women.

Looking at the match this is one that will be truly unexpected. Viva Van is a star on the rise globally who makes heads turn with the creative offense yet on the other side Crystal’s mission is likely to become a women’s champion for the second time in her career.

With her big birthday bash at DEXCON Fast Break just announced, she would love nothing more than to be able to wear the VPW Women’s Championship to the party.

The Final Word

Whether you are in Vietnam or further afield, if you can make it to Vietnam for Vietnamania this weekend make sure you do so. Tickets are limited and selling fast but you don’t want to miss this.
