Storylines that defined Vietnam Pro Wrestling in 2025

As we head into the final Vietnam Pro Wrestling show of the year, which also happens to be their biggest show of all time, we take a look back at the monumental year Vietnam Pro Wrestling has had.

The Creation of the Founder

Up to a point, 2024 was Rocky Huynh’s year. An epic championship win, successful title defences, and a Saigon Hunter reunion — which was capped off with a high-profile match in Malaysia (vs The Juicy Boyz at MYPW Fightback) — made it seem like the top of the card was where The Awesome Taurus would stay.

But while Rocky had been enjoying himself and his success, Ares had been getting ready. Under new management, The Unstoppable Force trained relentlessly and smashed through every opponent put in his way: Sunny Z, Rikyoh, Hy Draco, Michael Richards, and a total domination performance in The Rumble that led him back to Rocky at Brawl Hallows Eve 2024. At the show, Ares took Huynh apart piece by piece, with the only saving grace being Draco’s sudden cash-in.

A down-and-out Rocky looked to regroup and consider what was next, but that wasn’t something The British Horror would allow. Instead, Rocky was goaded into a match at Immortal Glory, which he would lose, sending him into more desperation. The solution? A hair vs hair match at Spring Bash, which would see him humiliated in front of what he once considered his fans. Instead of support, he was met with stunned silence and even some laughter.

Five losses, including a three-way at Ho Tram Slam where he was almost ignored by the international press over others, and losing the fans in favor of younger, newer wrestlers, did not sit well with The Founder. He snapped, and at Saigon Slam a month later he shocked the world by costing Hy Draco the championship and aligning with The British Horror.

At Ultimate Collision a month later, a new Rocky — The Founder — was born. New music, new attire, and a new attitude have created a wave of new success. Now the sure-shot contract holder and top contender for the tag titles, the first wrestler in Vietnam is on top of the world. If he plays his cards right, he could be holding all the gold when Vietnamania is done.

The Rise of the SEA Monster

As one man fell, another rose. The chants for Ares could not be ignored any longer. The Unstoppable Force has become one of the most popular wrestlers in the whole of Vietnam and was rewarded with one final chance at the VPW Championship at Ultimate Collision. In one of the greatest matches ever seen in Southeast Asia, Ares overcame insurmountable odds to pin The British Horror and create so much fan noise that people in District 2 were startled. Now he is continuing his tear through the very best in Southeast Asia.

Already knocked down this year were DEXCON World, Puso Pinoy and SETUP 24/7 Champion Jake De Leon, Da Butcherman, Aiden Rex, and Mighty Mighty. Next up is not just a threat to Ares but a Real Global Threat (see what I did there) to Vietnam Pro Wrestling in The Statement Andreuw Tang. We’ll save the rest for the Vietnamania preview.

Vortex Rebellion in Crisis

Derided and hated for their gang warfare and cheating ways, Vortex Rebellion looked stronger than ever at the end of 2024. With additional members joining in D. Austin and then Xumin Long, they created havoc for Sid Nguyen and a revenge-seeking Khoa Truong towards the end of the year.

However, at Spring Bash the tide would turn for one member in KPY, when he was left to fend for himself in Guerrilla Games. This would, however, spur on the 22-year-old to challenge veteran Sid in a star-making contest. Although defeated, KPY would come out with the fans’ and locker room’s respect. He had shown he could hold his own and was a force to be reckoned with.

However, his allies would show their colors and turn their back on him, with Kira gloating over his team with new bestie Xumin Long having just won the tag titles. His suggestion was to force KPY to face Xumin in an all-or-nothing singles match. Winner becomes the tag title holder; loser is out of Vortex Rebellion. After losing due to nefarious tactics from Long, KPY would be kicked out of the group.

This would be their demise, as making the save was original founder An D, who returned to end his own creation. Embarrassed by their attitudes, he and KPY have been at war, looking to take down the remains of this once-mighty team.

Now, both with new teammates, they get one final chance to end the final remnants of Vortex Rebellion in the tag rumble at Vietnamania.

The Classic Night

The storyline that captured our hearts and made grown men cry. For the past two years, Billy and Bobby have been a popular act, even winning the vacant tag titles in their first ever match. But it wasn’t until the end of 2024 that they found themselves as undeniably one of the top acts in Vietnam Pro Wrestling.

At The Rumble 2024, a reunited Vung Tau Experience entered the ring as champions to defend against The Classic Night. It took all of five minutes for the VTX boys to return to their old ways and for the fans to side fully behind the challengers. What happened next was one of the most gripping tag team title defences ever seen in Southeast Asia. Fans were on the edge of their seats as time after time Billy or Bobby almost took the three, but it wasn’t to be.

One month later at Brawl Hallows Eve, the same fate would befall our heroes in a Halloween Street Fight. Once again the full house, this time in costume, created a deafening roar supporting the challengers.

Then someone stepped in — a manager of champions, Phuong Nam, who offered, or more like it, forced his services on the duo. His services? Sending Bobby into the beating of his life against G Sharpe, who due to a miscalculation lost to Bobby. Then Billy would be sent into a 2-on-1 beatdown by Venomshank. In each instance, while Phuong Nam broke their bodies, he couldn’t break their fun-loving spirit. His follow-up was to call on one of the nastiest, meanest teams in the world, The Natural Classics, with the stipulation that he would leave Billy and Bobby alone if they won — but if they lost, they must split up.

Saigon Slam 2025: the fans roared, they shouted for Billy, they shouted for Bobby, and thanks to some support from Southeast Asian legend Mighty Mighty, the duo won their freedom. After an entertaining win against Malaysia’s top team The Juicy Boyz, the duo would finally get their next shot a year from when this all started.

Once again facing the numbers game, Billy and Bobby would win and finally become tag team champions. Through a trembling voice, Xavier Patricks would declare them the new tag team champions, and the world felt good for that moment. However, things don’t last — there’s been a shadow over the tag team division for the past few months, The Rocky Horror Show, and now the sadistic pair get their chance at Vietnamania.
