Alongside this news round-up we will publish a review of last week's Ring of Rebirth and a look back at the key Real Global Threat moments leading into Under the Same Moon. Vietnam

New match confirmed for The Rumble

Confirmed earlier this week, Miles Karu gets the chance to begin a run towards double champion status when he meets Hy Draco in a number one contender's match.

Draco is a former champion and his recent work in VPW has clearly earned him another shot at the title. Karu has been given this opportunity off the back of his excursion with DDT in Japan and, of course, his win over Shivam for the MYPW Southeast Asia Championship back in April. The odd thing about this booking, in this writer's opinion, is that it looks like such an obvious pairing on paper. Both men are cruiserweights of similar height who work at a similar pace, yet the two have never actually met in a ring before.

The Rumble match itself has also been confirmed, along with the rumoured Ares vs Xiumin Long title match.

After the match, Prince Benny declared his win over Jay Yuu had settled the question of who the King of Thai Wrestling is, then named WASSANA as the real top contender and said it was time for the pair of them to take over.

SETUP Thailand adds more matches to Under the Same Moon

Paksa returns in a major title shot

One of SETUP's founding roster members returns after more than a year out with a serious injury. Paksa was last seen in a ring at IWA Bangkok Navigation in January 2025 against Marufuji, and this will not be a gentle comeback. He goes straight into a match with three of the best young names in Southeast Asian wrestling.

Openweight Champion Anont Alonzo has looked like a main event player in the making since he won the belt, and his run of matches at The Lab has visibly sharpened his offence. Aiden Rex is SPW's technical straight shooter, though he has picked up a cocky edge over the past year and has used it to get his win-loss record moving in the right direction. It has been a while since Rex held gold, so this is a match he needs.

Isaiah Valencia is now the only Hy/Op member without a championship, with Jake De Leon holding the DEXCON World Title and Nigel San Jose the new Pusong Pinoy Champion. A win here would prove his own value and might also help convince Shivam that working with Hy/Op is worth his time.

Paksa has never held this title, so a win would make for one of the comeback stories of the year.

Pre-show exhibition: Manuel and Admin Oak vs Mc Nexo and Mylson James

Four developing wrestlers get another platform here, and each of them brings something different. Mylson James was the standout at the last event, moving far quicker than his size suggests he should. There is a long running rumour that he once worked under the name Mr Lucha, though nobody has ever confirmed it. Manuel has improved every time he has appeared at The Lab. Mc Nexo turned heads with his physique and looked far more assured than in previous outings. Admin Oak remains the most cunning of the four, happy to sit back and wait for one opening.

The line-up looks familiar, but the change is worth noting. Oak and Nexo were on the winning side last time and now find themselves on opposite sides of the ring. Both have been impressive, so get to the venue by 5.15pm if you want to see it.

Three-way match: Fienic Rose vs Dewdy vs Monomoth

SETUP have built this match around the visibility of LGBTQ+ performers in Southeast Asian wrestling, and they are billing it as, in their words, "Southeast Asia's most fabulous three-way match". The region has been notably open on this front compared with a lot of the wrestling world, and SETUP are leaning into that here.

Monomoth is the most internationally recognised of the three, having worked for American independent promotion GCW. Dewdy, formerly of Elegance Boyz, has had a strong run of form recently and currently holds the 24/7 Championship. Fienic Rose represents Malaysia, competes as one half of LOVExFRDM with Syawal, and is a former IWA Japan World Tag Team Champion.

The three have never shared a ring before. On paper this is a match built on personality and presentation as much as wrestling, and SETUP are presenting it as one of the show's centrepiece attractions.

St John Innocent College (Kru Pol and Jeney) and Dr Gore vs Jack Jack Cheese (Jack Alexander, Big Good Jack and Cheeseburger Kid)

Kru Pol has spent the last two events looking for an international student to bring into St John Innocent College. Dr Gore worked out well. Ryan Shen did not, and that pairing ended in defeat. With the doctor from Old Changi Hospital back in Thailand again, it now looks settled that Dr Gore is the school's international representative, and he may turn out to be one of its most useful.

The bigger problem for the college is the feud between Big Good Jack and Jeney, which shows no sign of ending. Some fans think Jeney brought it on himself given how much he winds people up. Others felt BGJ went well past the line when he came to Thailand and attacked Jeney outside the rules on two separate occasions. BGJ has since been working on Cheeseburger Kid, telling him that Jeney's innocent act hides something far worse and that Jeney is the reason Jack 'N' Cheese lost their shot at the World Tag Team Championship.

To even things up, BGJ and CBK have brought in Jack Alexander to form Jack Jack Cheese. The thinking is simple enough. If the college keeps winning through strange tactics dressed up as academic study, then the answer is to bring in someone even less predictable. Jack Alexander qualifies. Once the Secret Sauce comes out, nobody knows what follows, including whether it helps his own team or takes them out along with everyone else.

IWA Japan and SETUP World Tag Team Championship three-way match: St John Innocent College (c) vs Khoa Truong and Ma$on vs P'Suchart and Naga Nai

This is the first defence for the 17th champions, representing St John Innocent College, and it follows the tradition of this title being defended in a three-way. The difference this time is that it runs under standard triple threat rules rather than eliminations, which means the champions can lose the belts without being beaten themselves.

Naga Nai and P'Suchart come in believing the champions owe them. Their argument is that St John Innocent College would never have won the titles if they had not removed Bad Company first. P'Suchart is a two-time holder of this championship and knows exactly what it takes, and this run is about getting there alongside Naga Nai, a long-time friend who came into this as a fan.

The other challengers are Ma$on, the current SPW Hardcore Champion, and Khoa Truong of Vietnam, known as The Undead Spirit. Wrestlers from different countries holding these titles together might have raised eyebrows a few years ago, but the region is far more connected now, and both men see cross-border work as the way to build something lasting. International fatal four-way set for SPW Overdrive

SPW Overdrive on 18 September opens with a fatal four-way built around fresh starts. Miles Karu of MYPW returns to SPW and will want to show what he picked up during his time with DDT Pro Wrestling in Japan. Australia's Aaron O'Malley makes his SPW debut at Foo Chow Building. Locally, Legion of Total Anarchy leader CK Vin has his first match since losing the SPW Singapore Championship, and "Comeback Kid" Emman is looking to reset after his alliance with Jack 'N' Cheese and Monomoth ended badly last time out.

SPW Hardcore Championship match set for Overdrive

Also on 18 September, MAONdefendstheSPWHardcoreChampionshipagainst"TheHustler"Ray.MAON defends the SPW Hardcore Championship against "The Hustler" Ray. Ray wants payback for that, and also for Miss Selina, who MA$ON attacked after her championship win.

A well-travelled Singaporean wrestler has been appearing in SPW-related feeds recently, in a way that reads like a challenge to show up. Overdrive may be where we see a familiar face return.

Philippines

Quatro named for Fight Night 4

Quatro is the first name announced for Fight Night 4: 4-Bidden Door, and he will defend the FPW Championship against Robin Sane.

This is a cross-promotional defence, with the reigning FPW Champion putting the title on the line inside a WUW ring. Robin Sane, billed as "The Fastest Pinoy Wrestler", arrives with momentum that has been difficult to predict, having walked away from MUM and then beaten his former stablemate Poknat.

The event takes place on 15 August 2026 at Brawlpit Bulusan, Quezon City.

PUSO announce online show and first ticketed event

PUSO Wrestling's first ticketed show, Wild Heart, takes place on Sunday 6 September at 3pm at Gotsauce Studios in Quezon City, east of Camp Aguinaldo and south of Eastwood Mall. This looks to be a mat show, with full details due on PUSO's website.

Before that, the promotion streams New Era, New Rules on their YouTube channel this Sunday, 9 August at 8pm. Main Maxx vs Super P has already been announced.

Super P and Jake De Leon heading to Japan

Both Super P and Jake De Leon are on Japanese excursions this month. Match announcements should follow, but it looks like both will start at ChocoPro picking partners and facing each other, with Jake De Leon teaming with Anarko Montana and Super P with Kaho Hiromi against a mystery team. We wish them both productive trips.

Malaysia

More matches announced for MYPW x Grapplemax Causeway Jam

The main event of Causeway Jam, and probably the match that decides the Causeway Jam Cup, is once again the elimination match.

MYPW are represented by Bali Pro Wrestling Champion Emman Azman, The Wonderboy, and young upstart Bobby Sinaga. Emman Azman and Wonderboy have been feuding recently, which may leave Bobby as the one holding the team together.

Grapplemax counter with SPD, Ban Sachak, and Grapplemax Rising Champion Kelvin Lang. Kelvin and Ban have their own problems with each other, which makes for a neat parallel between the two sides.

The question is which team can keep itself together long enough to take the cup home.
