Thai Wrestling Reaches a Breaking Point: Monomoth Injured, New Title Contender to Be Decided
The landscape of Thai professional wrestling has been turned upside down after Shivam’s brutal attack on Monomoth, forcing him out of action and leaving the IWA Japan No.1 Contender spot vacant. Now, IWA Japan has confirmed that a new challenger will be determined in a triple-threat match at the upcoming event.
This chaos began at SETUP YEAR END CLIMAX, where Shivam cost Jonathan Johnson his SETUP Thailand Openweight Championship, ending his record-breaking 13-title defense streak. The title ultimately landed in the hands of Andruew Tang, the leader of Singapore Pro Wrestling (SPW). While some fans have speculated about a deeper alliance between Shivam and Tang, the new champion seems unaware of any backstage politics and is simply focused on holding his gold.
At IWA Thailand: Bangkok Navigation, Shivam once again disrupted the scene, forcing his way into a No.1 Contender match and attacking Monomoth post-match, leaving him seriously injured. Medical updates confirm that Monomoth requires surgery and will be out for an extended period.
To address this, IWA Japan has ordered a new triple-threat match to determine Monomoth’s replacement. Meanwhile, SPW is sending multiple wrestlers to compete in SETUP EP.21, continuing its mission to elevate Southeast Asian wrestling on the global stage.
In a major announcement, SETUP Thailand Pro Wrestling has confirmed monthly events moving forward, ensuring consistent action and storytelling for fans. With tag team feuds heating up, a growing women’s division featuring TJPW collaborations, and young stars rising, Thai wrestling is set for an explosive 2025.
Who will step up in Monomoth’s absence? Find out at SETUP EP.21 – tickets are on sale now!
