SEA Wrestling News Update – 9th September 2025

It may have been a quieter weekend for shows, but the news hasn’t slowed down across Southeast Asia. From surprise results in Vietnam to international dream matches being booked in Thailand, here’s everything you need to know.

Vietnam Pro Wrestling – Special Show Results

Vietnam Pro Wrestling ran a one-off special this past Sunday at Primal Fitness in Thao Dien, testing out their new secondary ring with a lunchtime card.

  • Ares defeated Ronnie

  • The Classic Night beat Venomshank

  • Main Event: KPY defeated Sid Nguyen & Rocky Huynh

KPY’s victory over VPW’s two pillars feels like a major turning point for the 22-year-old powerhouse. With momentum on his side, an Openweight Championship shot could be on the horizon.

See VPW’s official post here.

Injury Update: Sid Nguyen

Sid posted on social media hinting at a possible recurrence of his shoulder injury first suffered in a match against Mitch Ryder two years ago. No word yet on severity. With Hy Draco and others already sidelined, the door is wide open for VPW’s younger stars to step up.

VPW’s next show, Brawl Hallow’s Eve, is already on sale.

Puso Bakunawa Meet & Greet – September 13th

Puso Bakunawa is set to host a free fan meet and greet at Social House this Saturday. Fans can use their stubs for entry, with a packed card featuring:

  • Joya vs Patricia Ligaia

  • Joey Rosas & Trainee Elmo vs Jake De Leon & mystery partner (chosen from the audience!)

  • Ken Cifer vs Trainee Berna

  • Solomon vs HIT

  • Isaiah Valencia vs Gabriel Arkanghel

The night also includes live music from Super P and the Space Bandits, exclusive early access to DXCN’s next show, and plenty of fan interaction.

Dexcon – Sari Sari Slam Announced

Dexcon has revealed the name of their October show: Sari Sari Slam, set for Sunday, 19th October (likely from the Brawlpit Bulusan). The card will be headlined by former NXT star Lacey Lane, with talk of another possible international guest still under wraps.

Grapplemax – NWE Showcase 4 This Weekend

Grapplemax presents NWE Showcase 4 live from their Singapore studio this Saturday. Stay tuned for our preview later this week.

Singapore Pro Wrestling – Hardcore Island 3

SPW’s Halloween spectacular Hardcore Island 3 takes place on 24th October at Foo Chow Building.

Highlights include:

  • Main Event: Shigehiro Irie (Japan) vs Da Butcherman for the SPW Southeast Asia Championship.

  • Jack ‘N’ Cheese vs Real Global Threat for the SPW Tag Team Championships.

  • Alexis Lee returns after missing Heartland Havoc.

  • Halloween Battle Royal – with mystery entrants and a “wish” for the winner.

Fans are encouraged to dress up, with the event promising a mix of weapons, scares, and international guests. Even better – it runs the night before Grapplemax’s show, giving fans another wrestling weekender in Singapore.

SETUP Thailand x AEW

SETUP Thailand Pro Wrestling and Gatoh Move Thailand were featured in an AEW promo video to build the Riho vs Mercedes Moné storyline.

Riho has deep ties to Thai wrestling, having performed there over a decade ago, long before becoming AEW’s first Women’s Champion. She now heads into AEW All Out on 21st September with a TBS Championship shot.

Also noteworthy – Terry Diesel (formerly EK Baki) became the first Thai wrestler to appear in an official AEW video package. A milestone moment for Thai wrestling visibility.

SETUP Paranoid – Title Matches Confirmed

Two major title bouts have been confirmed for SETUP: Paranoid later this month.

IWA Japan x SETUP – World Heavyweight Championship

Emman Azman (Malaysia / RGT) vs Jonathan Johnson (Champion)
This long-awaited singles clash comes nearly two years after their famous tag encounter at SETUP EP.11. The winner will headline A New Dawn, SETUP’s first show in Japan.

MYPW SEA Championship – Malaysia vs Thailand

Shivam (Champion) vs Jack Alexander (Challenger)
Shivam has held the belt for over a year, but faces “The Shaman of Secret Sauce” Jack Alexander in his SETUP debut. Waiting in the wings is Kaizul, who has a guaranteed shot in Malaysia after winning the Journey to Gold tournament.

With MYPW and SETUP continuing their close partnership, this match further cements the SEA Championship’s prestige across the region.

Final Thoughts

From young prospects like KPY making waves in Vietnam, to international dream matches in Thailand, and Halloween chaos looming in Singapore, Southeast Asian wrestling continues to thrive with a mix of local talent and global connections.
