SEA Wrestling News — Saturday 21 February
We’re back. It has been a big news week across Southeast Asian wrestling, so let’s get straight into it.
MYPW Announces World Title Dream Match for New Breed 4
The potential main event for New Breed 4 is shaping up as a dream battle of the heavyweights. World Champion Carlo Cannon is set to return and face VPW Vietnam Champion Ares in a contest likely to tear the house apart.
Both wrestlers carry impressive win–loss records and have become defining figures within their respective national scenes. This has all the makings of a rare cross-promotional encounter and could prove to be a once-in-a-lifetime match.
The announcement has already drawn strong reactions from wrestlers across the industry, with BGJ commenting “Holy Sh*t”, while CK Vin referenced just how “meaty” the matchup is. We agree.
Penny Haze Trains at Ice Ribbon
Over the past week, FPW newcomer Penny Haze has continued her development by training at the renowned Ice Ribbon dojo in Japan.
Resident Pinay wrestler Yappi has previously helped facilitate training opportunities for talent from the Philippines, including Patricia Ligia last year.
Haze has posted images from the dojo following completion of her Haoming Mask training experience. Due to her relative in-ring inexperience, it appears unlikely she will participate in a public match during this visit, unlike Ligia previously. However, further visits in the near future would not be surprising.
The Otaku Crusader to Challenge Jake De Leon Tonight
The Filipino Fighting Rooster and reigning triple champion Jake De Leon will defend PUSO Wrestling’s top championship tonight against Hakaim Mateo on the Otaku Crusader’s home turf.
PUSO Wrestling runs a special event today at Vintracom, with local support expected to play a major factor in the title defence.
PSE: Asia Returns to Bangkok for Santo Slam
PSE: Asia will return to Bangkok on 1 March with another instalment of its lucha libre–themed series at El Santo Bangkok.
Already confirmed for the main event is Sunny Z vs Ryan Rogan. As with previous editions, tickets are expected to sell quickly.
Radiant Rui Joins MKW All Star Tour
MKW’s previously announced All Star Tour in China next month has confirmed another addition to the lineup.
Following Poppy and Crystal’s decision to work together as a unit in their scheduled triple threat match against Kitty Zhang, plans have been adjusted. The bout will now see the duo face Kitty Zhang and Grapplemax representative Radiant Rui.
Rui joins an all-star Southeast Asian contingent that already includes Alexis Lee, Sunny Z, Benji, and CK Vin.
New Matches for Spring Bash
In an update which may be the final card, two new matches were announced for VPW Spring Bash March 14th.
The first sees upstart KPY respond to a challenge from veteran Jimmy AG who has taken a dislike to the youngsters lack of rap performances and dress code. In response KPY has promised to prove himself to the veteran.
Additionally in a highlight video package it was shown that the battle of the masks will go down when newcomer Ronnie El Rapido challenges Xiumin Long in a generational contest that’s sure to wow the fans.
The current lineup is
VPW Tag Team Championship: The Rocky Horror Show Vs Ares & Hydraco W/ Phuong Nam
The Classic Night Vs Juicy Meat
An D Vs Meteor Kid
KPY Vs Jimmy AG
Ronnie El Rapido Vs Xiumin Long
There may be another match announced which we would expect to involve some combination of Damien, Dokuga, Henry, Khoa or possibly Vortex Rebellion
