SEA Wrestling Issue 1
Print media is dead! One of my best friends in the whole world has told me this several times. He's a newsagent and knows the numbers all too well. He might be right in general but what about wrestling? Part of me still feels the average fan can enjoy a nice piece of printed literature on this little sport we're all so fond of.
Without wrestling magazines such as PWI from the US, Weekly Pro Wrestling in Japan or Power Slam in the UK a lot of us wouldn't have seen our love for wrestling grow past a certain point. We'd have been stuck watching WWE, likely with rising boredom until we grew out of it. Without the magazines, some of our most treasured performers around the world may have decided it wasn't for them. Would Bryan Danielson or Sami Zayn have signed up to wrestle had they not seen highlight photos of Japanese super juniors or Mexican luchadores? Probably not.
Not only do wrestling magazines inspire us to learn more about the greater wrestling world which led to more fans at shows, bigger reactions for independent talent and probably a whole bunch of merch being shifted. They became collectors items to be treasured, looked back on and signed by our favorites who appear larger than life through the glossy photos.
You can call me old fashioned if you like but things today are too quick and disposable. We watch a reel in 20 seconds then forget it. We take 1000s of photographs of ourselves that nobody every really looks at or appreciates. We drop something that doesn't interest us in seconds and the memories don't remain.
The aim of SEA Wrestling Magazine is not to make money, I'm certain I could make more looking for change under the seats after my next show. It's to create something artistic that is a snap shot in wrestling history for those in the South East Asia region that we focus on. It's a little thing that we can do to give thanks to the hard work put in by the people in the ring and outside of it.
For now the magazine will be produce approximately every three months. Yeah by publication date some things might be out of date but that was the nature of print media and one I can't change. What we can do it give you something enjoyable to read that's away from the millions of hours of disposable content thrown at you all day long.
For now SEA Wrestling Magazine will be free to read online. I have no current intentions to change this. However, each issue will have a very limited print run, if you would like one please get in touch through our socials or our contact form on the main page. Issue 1 will be sold only at cost price plus shipping (if outside Vietnam).
What ever way you decide to read it if you do. Please enjoy.
