Ring of Rebirth Experience XI - Cyber Security - Review
Ring of Rebirth ran their eleventh experience show in under a two-year period. This one focuses around the mystery of who would want to hack the ROR social accounts, a special cyber security seminar, and grudge matches between Tobias Frost and Eurasian Dragon as well as Tok Bomoh Mekong against bounty hunter Ahmed Arif.
Aerial Sniper Nyc vs Raga Ngadai
The show kicks off with everyone's least favourite cyber security expert Tobias Frost introducing Raga Ngadai to face off with Aerial Sniper Nyc, who is already in the ring. The two, as expected, put on a rather compelling mat classic that saw Nyc start on the offence until a lariat from Ngadai changed the dynamic and saw powerful strikes and offence dismantle the most well-rounded wrestler in Singapore today. Despite a spirited comeback, Ngadai was able to knock Nyc off the top and eventually hit his slam finisher for the three to become the number one contender. A fine 5-minute opener — I'd like to see what these two could do in 10 to 15 minutes.
Winner: Raga Ngadai
Fariz Bravo vs Geylang Green vs Singha Noor
This was followed up with the antivirus three-way between Fariz Bravo, Singha Noor and Geylang Green. The three took part in an exciting match that saw a return to form for Green against his less experienced foes. Much of the match saw Green and Bravo taking Noor to town, scoring a double pin which saw the match restarted. However, it was newcomer Bravo who slammed Green and then caused Noor to pass out in a single leg Boston crab to win the match. His prize was not just antivirus but a subscription to the OnlyFans account for Fariza Bravo — his sister's account...errr...lucky lad!
Winner: Fariz Bravo
We very quickly flip into the Cyber Security seminar but Frost immediately makes it a verbal attack on the Eurasian Dragon and admits it was him who hacked the Ring of Rebirth accounts! Shocking!
The brazen Frost demands Dragon enter the ring and the match is on.
Eurasian Dragon vs Tobias Frost
Dragon gives Frost a free shot but he decides to outwrestle the wrestler and ends up being tossed around much to the pleasure of the fans. After a lot of manhandling, the now verbal Sayn Ngadai tries to take the ref somewhere — surprisingly politely — but this allows a laptop to become a slap top and offer Frost a close three count.
Frost continues to take control with some strong-arming as Dragon recovers and puts on a highly vocal sleeper hold where it feels like we can hear his every thought. But it's not enough to stop the Eurasian Dragon, and Frost gets given a massive backbreaker for the three!
Finally some revenge on the mouthy Frost — and Raga Ngadai gets slapped with the laptop. It probably won't stop them but it certainly felt good.
Erfie Blackheart vs Sabro
Next, the co-main event with the first ROR Champion taking on the rising masked man Sabro. We get a promo from Erfie where he states this match is really just charity and Sabro is going to regret calling him another word for a cat.
Erfie played the aggressive veteran well at first but Sabro didn't accept a submissive role. In fact, the masked man battled something akin to Steve Austin. Brawling consumed a lot of this match until the latter point where Sabro missed a poorly timed dive and fell to the X-Factor.
Winner: Erfie Blackheart
Sabro went for the handshake but gets a kick in the nuts. Good to see Erfie heated back up as a heel.
Ring of Rebirth Championship: Tok Bomoh Mekong vs Ahmed Arif
The main event began with Mekong giving Arif a good hiding with the mystical duster, laying in the punishment. Yet Arif gains control and lays in big boots and nasty chops while Mekong's greatest fans cheer on.
Some rest holds took the next segment as Arif looks to wear down the interdimensional traveller. We see him grab some ropes and choke out the champ, but Mekong fights back and gets a huge leg drop.
The mystic coconut is out but is blocked by the use of a motorbike helmet that becomes a weapon, and we get the five-star strikes from Ahmed Arif who lays in the punches. He spends a bit of time chatting with the fans before going to use the helmet to wear down Mekong, but it isn't enough and the champ chokes Arif with the duster to win the match by knockout.
After the match, Mekong is attacked by Raga Ngadai who uses the duster to put pressure on the eyes of the champion and temporarily blind him ahead of their future title match.
Winner: Still ROR Champion — Tok Bomoh Mekong
The match was fun — studio wrestling main event madness. Before signing off though, I want to talk briefly about Tok Bomoh Mekong / Sayn RH. A while ago, I noted some reviewers somewhat mocking the gimmick. Granted it's a little theatrical for what Singapore may have been used to over the past 14 years, but it's not out of character for the characters being developed. People are taking note and the segments have been strong. It's got a good storyline and he's becoming one of the most regularly booked wrestlers in Singapore through ROR and SPW. I'm fully behind Tok Bomoh Mekong at this point and you should be too.
Another fine showcase from Singapore's answer to studio wrestling — as always, definitely worth a watch.
