Real Global Threat - Issue 4 Reprint
In Issue 4 of SEA Wrestling Magazine, we took a look at the early months of pro wrestlings newest and most exciting faction, Real Global Threat. We outline exactly what they got up to and consider where they may go next. Of course we know since this was printed that Chris Brookes has also become a member.
On May 31st the current incarnation of Real Global Threat was complete when Jake De Leon was revealed as the fourth member of the group. Already aggressively dominating the wrestling scene in a number of promotions, we take a look at where this faction could go and who could possibly prevent their total domination.
Take over based factions full of big names are nothing new to the pro-wrestling scene. From the n.W.o to DX to Bullet Club and heap in between, these factions have created pivotal pro-wrestling moments, storylines and shifted more merchandise than a Phuket tourist market in peak season. With that in mind, it was only a matter of time until a promotion attempted one in Southeast Asia, however what has evolved was possibly beyond anyone’s anticipation.
Seeds were planted back in January at SETUP Thailand’s Bangkok Navigation show when Shivam, ever the aggressor, brutally assaulted popular babyface Monomoth at the end of their matchup. The victim has not been seen since.
Showing no remorse, Shivam instead threatened and politiked SETUP Thailand into allowing him a place on the next show against regional hero Jake De Leon. Shivam would have the fight of his career but ultimately come up on top in this contest. It was what occurred later on in the show that shook Southeast Asia to its core when the MYPW Southeast Asia Champion assisted SETUP Openweight Champion The Statement in obtaining a victory against top babyface Jonathon Johnson. Immediately announcing their alliance and the RGT brand, the two would be chased off by De Leon before being able to do any further damage.
What would occur next would be a series of cryptic online promos where the duo promised to take over Southeast Asia and alluded to not being alone.
In an attempt to untangle the alliance before it could become anymore dominant, MYPW promoters made the decision to create a triple threat match between the two and a returning Emman Azman for Shivam’s title at New Breed 3. Unfortunately for Azman the duo remained strong even after fighting for a singles title. They even tried to add insult to injury by offering Azman a place in RGT. The offer was turned down on the night with The Juicy Boyz coming to the rescue. A move that would backfire on them as Shivam demanded they compete against each other at Full Throttle on July 12th for a shot at his strap.

Just a week later Shivam and Azman would be on the losing end of matches in The Philippines when Main Maxx defeated Shivam and Miles Karu (who took the fall) while Nigel San Jose pinned Azman. Cocky and arrogant, The Goldenboy clearly didn’t take the loss against the veteran PInoy wrestler who he felt was beneath him and his Australian training as following another loss at SPW Mayhem on May 30th he dismantled his partner Ho Ho Lun and accepted an offer to be the third man in RGT.
The group now felt somewhat complete with the entire peninsula having a strong representative that could help in dominating their three home promotions (SPW, MYPW and SETUP). Just one day later at SETUP Fallen Kingdom, the trio would take on the team of Jake De Leon, Jonathan Johnson and Zack Sabre Jr. In a hard fought contest, Johnson was close to scoring a clear pinfall when out of nowhere he was blindsided by a superkick from JDL to secure the victory for RGT and from there the group was a foursome.
Things from there have been somewhat quieter, JDL was treated with disgust by his fellow Pinoy wrestlers and fans during Pinoy Wrestling Night 2 weekend while Shivam and Tang appear to have been spending more time creating chaos behind the scenes.
Already announced is Shivam facing Da Butcherman in a title vs title contest at SETUP Whiplash on June 28th just after our print date while the aforementioned champion and Azman will try to dismantle Love X FRDM at Full Throttle while they watch The Juicy Boyz collide. Clearly the group is focussed on destruction more than competition.
This creates the question of who can actually stand up to them? Johnson, SETUP’s biggest active babyface appears to be washing the hands of the promotions troubles and focussing on his IWA Title match against King Kappa (In lieu of Ultramantis Black). With other big names such as Monomoth and Pakse this leaves little in the way of credible opposition in Thailand. Something that could allow domination but also stall the storyline altogether.
Perhaps the answer is some of the stars of Pinoy wrestling and Singapore Pro combine. An alliance between The Horrors, Robin Sane and Main Maxx for example could be stiff competition for the four. It’s almost certain Malaysia’s babyfaces will step up to the challenge as well. Alongside The Juicy Boyz and Love X FRDM, it will be interesting to see what World Champion Carlo Cannon makes of his longtime friend Tang’s alliance with recent rival Shivam.
Storyline’s like this are made or broken depending on whether there’s a Sting or a Cody to rise up and save the day. There’s a huge talent pool around Southeast Asia, keep your eyes peeled.
