Puso Wrestling Bakunawa Preview

September 9th 2025

Puso Wrestling is back this weekend with another full dose of Pinoy wrestling action.

Kicking off with the Meet & Greet on Saturday, September 13, and leading straight into the huge Bakunawa show on Sunday, September 14 at the Brawlpit, fans will be treated to a combined thirteen matches—capping off with what could be the biggest championship contest in the promotion’s short history.

Meet & Greet Highlights

The Bakunawa Meet & Greet once again takes place at Social House, mixing live entertainment with in-ring action. Super P and Space Bandits will perform, and ticket holders for Bakunawa get a special discount.

The matches themselves look like a fun, experimental card designed to showcase new faces and unusual pairings:

  • Ken Cifer vs Trainee Berna – Berna, with his ever-present smile and trademark rose, could be a colorful new addition to the roster if he survives the Asian Nightmare.

  • Solomon Liwanag vs Hit – a clash of masks that promises spectacle.

  • Isaiah Valencia vs Gariel Arkangel – Valencia takes on an opponent known for his unpredictability.

  • Joya vs Patricia Ligaia – partners, rivals, repeat cycle. This feud rolls on with another chapter.

  • Jake De Leon & a Mystery Audience Member vs Joey Rosas & Trainee Elmo – JDL once again draws the short straw. Now relying on the crowd to supply his partner. Could we see a hidden threat, or a total wild card?

Bakunawa Main Show – Sunday, Sept 14

Seven major bouts will light up the Brawlpit.

Ken Cifer vs Sage Matthews

This one has international flavor. Sage Matthews has been making noise across Southeast Asia with appearances in SETUP and Grapplemax, showing he’s a versatile wrestler who adapts well to unfamiliar opponents. He has a knack for frustrating his rivals, drawing them into mistakes, and then capitalizing with sharp grappling. That kind of opportunism is dangerous in a one-off match.

But Ken Cifer is no ordinary test. A cornerstone of Puso, the “Asian Nightmare” is one of the most technically polished wrestlers in the Philippines today. His striking, submissions, and cool control make him incredibly hard to rattle. After the sting of losing the WUW Tag Titles, he’s carrying extra determination to remind fans that he’s not just a tag man—he’s still a top singles threat.

For Sage, this is a chance to prove he belongs in the Philippines’ upper tier. For Cifer, it’s about shutting down the hype of a newcomer and re-establishing his dominance.

SEA Wrestling Prediction: Ken Cifer forces Matthews to tap.

Jomar vs Danny Zamora

Few matches on this card carry as much bad blood as this one. Danny Zamora’s split from HSSL has left him branded a betrayer by his old allies, and Jomar has taken that personally. In recent months, Zamora has shown flashes of his old form, finding a second wind in his career, but the shadow of HSSL looms large.

Jomar, meanwhile, has been unpredictable and dangerous. Built like a tank, he has no problem throwing his weight around, and with the grudge he holds toward Zamora, this fight feels less like wrestling and more like a score to settle. When Jomar’s temper rises, he tends to overwhelm opponents with raw force, and it looks like that’s exactly what he wants to do here—make Zamora pay for walking away many moons ago.

SEA Wrestling Prediction: Jomar knocks Zamora out cold.

Super Friends vs Otaku Alien

On paper, this is a tag bout. In reality, it’s about whether either team can hold itself together.

For the Super Friends, the pressure of working without Super P has shown cracks. Patricia Ligaia and El Katipunero clearly want to represent their stable with pride, but frustration and miscommunication have crept in during matches. Without their charismatic leader, they’ve struggled to find the same unity that once made them such a beloved team.

Across the ring, Otaku Alien are arguably in even worse shape. Hakai Mateo’s falling-out with Alien Friend since the Waifu angle ended has been messy and public. Mateo even benched his own partner during the last livestream show, showing how far their trust has broken down. Still, the unpredictability of Alien Friend means there’s always danger, even when the partnership looks fractured.

This match could be pivotal: whichever team wins may find their confidence restored, while the losers risk imploding for good.

SEA Wrestling Prediction: The Super Friends edge it; they look more focused on the task at hand.

Moon Eater Match – Robin Sane vs Crystal vs Ravena vs Nigel San Jose

Bakunawa introduces one of Puso’s most inventive match concepts yet. Each competitor begins with a piece of the moon. When pinned or submitted, their piece passes to the victor, and the bout continues until one wrestler holds all four. At least three falls are guaranteed, but in practice this format creates layers of strategy and shifting targets.

  • Robin Sane desperately needs this. Coming off a crushing title loss and a failed bid alongside Chris Brookes, his pride has taken a hit. For a wrestler built on dazzling high-risk style, the pressure to bounce back is huge.

  • Crystal brings enthusiasm and big-match experience. Her SlamFest performance reminded everyone she can hang with anyone, and she thrives in chaotic multi-person bouts where her speed and timing shine.

  • Ravena has leaned into arrogance after embarrassing a certain matchmaker, and his ego could either fuel him or make him reckless. He’s young, confident, and itching to prove he belongs in the top tier.

  • Nigel San Jose may be the most dangerous competitor in this lineup. From his debut, he’s built a reputation as a ruthless finisher who never wastes motion. He’s not flashy, but in a format like this, efficiency could be the deciding factor.

The shifting stakes mean that as the match wears on, the one holding the most moon pieces becomes the top target. Expect alliances, betrayals, and plenty of scrambling to unfold before someone finally unites the whole moon.

SEA Wrestling Prediction: Robin Sane reclaims his pride with the win.

Bahay ng Liwanag in Action

THE HOUSE ALWAYS WINS. That mantra has defined Ang Bahay ng Liwanag’s run in Puso Wrestling. Led by the towering Pinunong Aaron Liwanag, and backed by the loyal Serafin and Solomon, the faction has steamrolled nearly everyone placed in their path. Their combination of size, intimidation, and unwavering belief in their cause has made them feel unstoppable.

The intrigue at Bakunawa is simple: who will step up to them? Opponents haven’t yet been named, but anyone daring enough to face the House will walk in knowing the odds are stacked against them. Whether challengers rise to test their strength or fall in line with “the light,” one thing is certain—when Bahay ng Liwanag enter the ring, the atmosphere changes.

SETUP 24/7 Championship – Jake De Leon (c) vs Joey Rosas

The 24/7 Championship often brings chaos, but Bakunawa offers a straight one-on-one showdown. Joey Rosas has been underestimated for too long, written off as the comic relief of Puso. Yet challenge after challenge, he’s earned this shot the hard way, showing heart, persistence, and surprising ability to hang with the best.

But this isn’t just anyone across the ring—it’s Jake De Leon. A trailblazer for Pinoy wrestling worldwide, JDL has been everywhere and beaten everyone. His knack for adapting to styles makes him a nightmare opponent. Rosas may have earned this title shot, but dethroning JDL would take the performance of his career.Especially this Jake De Leon who feels the younger generation of wrestlers have no appreciation for what he and the other early days wrestlers did, hustling for almost 12 years to provide them with a place to call home.

This match asks the question: is Rosas finally ready for the big stage, or is JDL once again too clever and too seasoned to be caught?

SEA Wrestling Prediction: JDL sneaks out the win with a crafty pin.

International Ribbon Tag Championship – Badd Butts (Yappy & Ancham) (c) vs Chelsea Marie & Joya

The story here is less about the champions and more about whether the challengers can co-exist. Chelsea Marie and Joya have spent the past year locked in one of the region’s most heated rivalries, from Dexcon to Puso to the Underground. Every time they cross paths, sparks fly. Now, with championship gold on the line, they’re being asked to put it all aside and function as a team.

Yappy and Ancham, meanwhile, are no soft targets. Their chemistry as a duo is tight, and their blend of power and technical ability has made them a tough out since claiming the belts. They’ll know exactly how to exploit any cracks in their challengers’ unity.

If Joya and Chelsea Marie can truly bury the hatchet for one night, they may shock everyone and snatch the titles. But if their tempers flare even once, the champs will punish them without hesitation.

SEA Wrestling Prediction: Chelsea Marie & Joya pull off the upset.

Main Event: Pusong Pinoy Wrestling Championship – Main Maxx (c) vs Fabio Makisig

he main event of Bakunawa is as big as it gets: Main Maxx vs Fabio Makisig, one-on-one, for the Pusong Pinoy Championship.

Shockingly, despite years of working side by side in the Pinoy scene, this is their first major singles clash. That absence fuels Makisig’s fire—he’s framed Maxx as an unproven champion, someone who hasn’t been tested by the “real” elite. His barbs have been pointed, dismissing Maxx’s reign as padded with easier opponents, painting him as a paper champion.

But the record tells a different story. Maxx has defended against names like Dr. Gore, Shivam, Miles Karu, and Red Lightning Robin Sane—some of Southeast Asia’s toughest. He’s evolved into a well-rounded champion who doesn’t just survive challenges, he overcomes them convincingly. Every time doubts have circled him, he’s answered them in the ring.

Makisig, however, isn’t just another challenger. He’s one of the most skilled, ruthless, and charismatic wrestlers the Philippines has produced. For years, fans have debated whether he or JDL is the Ace of Pinoy wrestling. If he beats Maxx here, that debate could finally tip his way.

This clash is about far more than the belt. It’s about legacy. For Makisig, it’s validation of his claim to be the true Ace. For Maxx, it’s the fight to prove his reign is no fluke and that he belongs among the greats of his era.

The stakes have rarely been higher in Puso Wrestling. It’s champ versus ace, heart versus skill, determination versus cold precision.

SEA Wrestling Prediction: Fabio Makisig takes it via technical knockout—but this one could define both men for years to come.
