Weekend Results in Southeast Asia: Rush Beats Shivam, CHEN Set to Challenge Naito, VPW Academy Showcase & More

This weekend saw two shows take place, with Singapore Pro Wrestling's Overdrive gaining significant international attention.

Singapore Pro Wrestling: Overdrive

Results from the show:

• Ryan Shen defeated Trainee Zayne in a dark match

• Emman defeated CK Vin, Miles Karu and Aaron O'Malley in a fatal four way

• Mason defeated Ray to retain the SPW Hardcore Championship

• Bryson Blade & Terrance defeated Mighty Mighty and Ryan Shen

• Dr Gore defeated The British Horror (w/ Princess Death). VPW's Xavier Patricks returned for another ring announcement, once again showered with boos from the fans

• Da Butcherman & Jack N' Cheese defeated Real Global Threat (Andrew Tang, Jake De Leon, Emman Azman) in a Singapore Street Fight said to be an amazing contest

• Miss Selina retained the SPW Queen of Asia Championship against Crystal and Mizuki

• Lio Rush defeated Shivam, thanks to interference from Aiden Rex

The promotion officially announced their 14th anniversary show, SPW Onslaught, for November 13th. Da Butcherman will defend the VPW Championship against Bryson Blade after the latter challenged him at Overdrive.

CHEN will make his return to the promotion after interrupting The Statement with a video response saying he missed Singapore and SPW. The match graphic also showed the returns of Tetsuya Naito and Yuki Kamifuku. Some rumours online have suggested it will be CHEN vs Naito for the SPW Southeast Asian Championship, but we won't consider this confirmed until the promotion officially announces it in the coming weeks. Shivam vs Aiden Rex is also heavily rumoured after their altercation in the main event.

Vietnam Pro Wrestling Academy Showcase 3: The Academy Champion of the Universe

VPW Academy put on their third Showcase this past Saturday, featuring rising talent from the academy alongside some of the top wrestlers in Vietnam. The show introduced a brand new championship, "The Academy Champion of the Universe," which at present is believed to be a Showcase only title, so don't expect it to appear on main shows yet. The show featured a four man tournament for the belt.

The show was a chaotic, overbooked, action packed, 90 minute slice of pro wrestling fun. These shows only admit 20 people to the academy, giving wrestlers and fans a chance to relax, enjoy some non canon wrestling and get up close to the action.

Results from the show:

Kira & FK Henry (formerly Slugshot) defeated Darren Tran and Flying Felix

Before Tran could get to his feet, Bad Bobby (The Classic Night's evil alter ego in the academy) stormed the ring demanding to choose his opponent for his tournament match. He chose Darren Tran and swiftly splashed him down for the pin

Before special MC Jody could protest, Bobby had marched off, and attention turned to the Academy's production manager Hai Nguyen, who was also asking for a match against Tran. Being the generous sort, Jody relented, and Hai Nguyen went for a splash, got a two count, then was hit by a Sister Abigail from the recovered Tran to lose again

With Tran vacating the ring, Dokuga, who was acting referee for the evening, decided he wanted a match and took off his ref shirt. He re-entered tag team wrestling with Hai Nguyen, despite this being an inferior team to what he was used to (look at photos of Hai Nguyen if you don't get the joke)

This led to a match between Dokuga and Hai Nguyen against KPY and Hy Draco, won by KPY and Draco in short order, with KPY pinning Hai Nguyen. Billy entered the ring to act as special referee for this match

After this contest, just to make MC Jody's life more difficult, Billy then demanded a match and was put up against the VPW Academy's practice dummy Trang (or Chang), who proceeded to school Billy with a series of German suplexes and make him tap out to an armbar

Next up was the second tournament match, as Meteor Kid defeated "Evil" Khoa Truong to advance to the finals

An D defeated Ronnie El Rapido

Finally, The Meteor Kid defeated Bad Bobby to become the first VPW Academy Champion
