Grapplemax Fight Club 2 - 8 years ago this week
Eight years agothis week (11th May 2018), Grapple MAX presented Fight Club 2: CBD Edition from Core Collective in Singapore in front of 95 fans.
Looking back now, the event serves as an interesting snapshot of Singapore wrestling during a key developmental period. The card featured a mixture of emerging local names, early title scenes and talent that would go on to become familiar figures across Southeast Asian wrestling.
The night opened with Greg Glorious defeating Alim before Remus and Shawnrick picked up a tag team victory over Irfan and The D. Elsewhere, Smart Dave defeated Wilson while Val overcame Alex in singles competition.
One of the biggest moments of the evening came when Man Bros, Jeff Man and Kevin Man, defeated Greg Glorious and Smart Dave to capture the AWGC Tag Team Championships in the show’s only title change.
The main event saw The Ladykiller successfully retain the Wrestle Square Cruiserweight Championship against Chris Panzer in a lengthy 19-minute contest that closed out the evening.
At the time, Fight Club 2 was another small but important building block for the Singapore scene. Eight years later, it stands as a reminder of how much Southeast Asian wrestling has evolved, from intimate venue shows drawing under 100 fans to the significantly larger and more internationally connected scene the region now enjoys.
The event is still available to watch in full on Youtube now and a great way to begin getting ready for the kick off of Grapplemax’s ten year anniversary season - Bash as Bahru on May 30th.
Already announced for the card are GST (ENDBoss Gregory & Big Dave) challenging for the Grapplemax Tag Team Championships against DGEN: Z (Nathan X & Devin Zemir), Jullian Creed challenging SPD for the Grapplemax Openweight Championship and the return of Shaheen & Sage Matthews to battle Heaven & Earth (Lahrvin DeShadow & Simon Siah).
Tickets are selling fast so head to Grapplemax’s socials to pick up yours for only $15 today!
