FPW Pagsubok QC Results: Mike Madrigal Turns Darker Ahead Of Unfinished Business
Filipino Pro Wrestling ran another Pagsubok QC event on Sunday afternoon (16th August) from the promotion's secret base in Quezon City, better known to locals as Kowloon House.
The headline from the afternoon was the finish, which continued to show a darker side to Mike Madrigal. He beat Mharckie, but he did not stop there, and carried on the beating well after the bell until Joshua Ellevistah came out to make the save. Ellevistah then challenged Madrigal to a "Walang Batas, Walang Aatras" (no holds barred) match at FPW Unfinished Business. Madrigal has been drifting this way for some time, and in my opinion the slow build has worked better than a single turn would have, because the crowd has been given several shows to decide how they feel about him.
Results
The YOLO Twins defeated Kimmy Larue and Evan Carleaux (Naughty Boys)
Kastigo defeated Kid Kwago, who was making his return after a serious medical issue
Rio Rufino won by disqualification against Jan Evander in an open challenge for the Metro Manila Championship, so the title did not change hands
Rated SPG defeated Sigma
Penny Haze defeated Ralph Imbayashi
Mike Madrigal defeated Mharckie
The Metro Manila Championship match is worth a note for anyone following the title picture. Rufino answered Evander's open challenge and got the win, but the disqualification finish means Evander keeps the belt. That is the kind of result that usually leads somewhere, and a rematch under clearer rules feels like the obvious next step.
Penny Haze also picked up the biggest win of her FPW run so far (in our opinion) by beating Ralph Imbayashi. This writer has been positive about Haze for a while now, and a win over someone with Imbayashi's standing on the card is a fair reward for how quickly she has come along. Her return from injury and Kid Kwago's return from his health problems gave the show two comeback moments in one afternoon, which is unusual for a taping this size.
What is next
FPW Unfinished Business, the promotion's biggest show of the year, runs in September. Madrigal against Joshua Ellevistah in a "Walang Batas, Walang Aatras" match is the first confirmed bout. Full card details and match announcements will be added to our events calendar as FPW releases them, and you can find the rest of our Philippines coverage on the site.
